来后，同时要能理解故事的意思。或者说，顺着孩子阅读量的增多，孩子的理解能力也

My child learned all new words through reading and he can explain the
meaning of a new word from the context. As to the main idea of a passage or
a story, a child will get it eventually after reading the same stuffs
several times. That's one of the reasons why I recommend buying books
instead of borrowing books: easy to reinforce prior knowledge.

The other day he mentioned to me that he did not learn
anything new from his English class this year. Also he mentioned that when
they took a kind of standard test for reading comprehension at the start of
the English class, his score 2100+ is the equivalent of the level of a
college sophmomore . . .
