It may be possible for J-1 Research Scholars to request to have their
SEVIS record kept open (active) prior to departure.
Reminder: the 24-month bar applies to Research Scholars and
their J-2 dependents when their SEVIS record is closed after
program completion. They have to wait for 24 months before they
may start another J-1 program in the Research Scholar category. | d***e
