Judge Vaughn Walker: I'm Gay

The judge who ruled that California's Proposition 8 is unconstitutional said
he never considered his sexual orientation a reason to recuse himself from
the case.
U.S. district judge Vaughn Walker, who retired in February, said judges' own
attributes, such as sexual orientation, race, or religion, should never
influence their ability to preside over a case.
In the interview with Reuters, Walker also acknowledged that he is gay. For
the past decade Walker has been in a relationship with a physician.
Walker, a native of Watseka, Ill., spent years working at a top law firm in
San Francisco before President George H.W. Bush nominated him for the
federal bench in 1989. | D**S

我记得没判之前有报道还说，大法官是gay不一定是好事，
说不定为了避嫌还判我们输呢。
而且他以前和gay有关的判例不见得都对gay有利。

in an ideal world, one should not recuse himself as a judge b/c of his
gender, race or sexual orientation. (clarence thomas still serves on the
supreme court when they are presiding over cases that involve racial
complements)
