recorded 63 miles in the past five days, mostly at extremely easy ultra pace
. my shin splints actually eased, and my legs don't feel nearly as stressed
as when I was in marathon training earlier this year. nowadays I do my easy
runs at 6.5mph on the treadmill while reading magazines, and do longer runs
outdoors at a relaxed 8:15 pace. the idea is to build pure endurance while
keeping the stress on my body to the minimum. will be peaking this week,
hopefully hitting 70-75 miles, and then it'll b

I read runner's world from the beginning to the end, then I read science
magazine. And my mind wanders around when I'm not reading. That was enough
to kill 3 hours.:)

yes. it'll be a long taper. I don't think I'll have a chance to do an ultra
long run as I should have. But I am making it up with relatively high
mileage. will see how it works.

good for you. I have no reason to push my pace in workouts right now. I need
to train my mind as well as my body, to be patient and think about the
total time rather than the mileage. Thinking about running 50 miles would be
intimidating. Thinking about jogging for a whole day sounds better.:)

does ultra need same/longer taper? I thought it should be shorter.. hehe

I believe that the general rule is, the longer the race, the longer the
taper. I see no reason why the taper for an ultra race would be shorter than
that of a marathon. I feel that a person's endurance is like an onion. It
has layers, and the farther you go, the more layers you peel off. How you
feel in the first few miles may have to do with how you trained the week
before the race day. Around mile 20, you will feel the effect of your
training a couple weeks back. And when you go further, you w

这个理论倒是第一次听说,很有新意。不过有道理,你和pen马拉松跑那么好,是中学
里那个老师带着远足爬山打下的基础:)

我觉得whxhm 和pen不太一样。
pen属于特别gifted.
