0.5 how about a couple of weeks with no running at all at least once per
year?
1.5 base training (at least once per year)

Why would I want to do that?
That would be ultra training for me -- even if I didn't plan on an ultra, I
would be busy looking for an ultra when I'm done with that base training.:)

1. Take a hibernation break at the end of every season.
2. During the break, run as few steps as possible.
3. Eat well and don’t be afraid to put on a few pounds.
4. Make time for friends, family, and life outside of running.
5. Hibernate four to eight weeks or until fully recharged!

Will you run close to M pace during ultra training? I do that 2-3 times per
day in my base training.

I constantly feel that my goal is not yet achieved and I'm eager to train
for my next race. I might need a break after a more serious ultra training.

My so called ultra training has been pretty much a joke so far. It consists
of slow junk miles -- no I don't run anywhere close to my M pace. But I
enjoy visiting new places on the run, and occasionally even new towns.:)
