into running vo2max directly (e.g. Lance).

into consideration of the ability to utilize VO2max. Lance's marathon
performance was actually pretty good after some proper training.
Cycling and running are somewhat similar in terms of general fitness. But
they could be very different in terms of muscle usage. Cycling uses more
inner quads and running uses more outer quads. But I think the more
important difference is that cycling has much lower impact. You also work in
a slightly lower HR zone.

Jack Daniels said vo2max is not universal, it's not just how much oxygen you
can breathe in your lungs. Vo2max is about how much oxygen you can consume
with your cardiovascular system and the peripheral components related to the
activities.
For example, there will be a vo2max of doing situps, and a vo2max of
squeezing a rubber ball with your right hand, which can't be high as only a
small group of muscles are being used.
VDOT is just a pseudo-vo2max calculated based on race performance, not the
actual rate of oxygen consumption.

Speaking of the effect of cross training on VO2max, I had a little chat with
a high school cross country coach
last week and he told me that once Joan Samuelson visited their school and
told them the story of her training
when her legs were put in a cast for weeks. She did her workouts on the
stationary bike (presumably quite
intensely). When she got back on the road and did a 10-mile run, she was
surprised to find out that she was
stronger than before the injury.

能有50%的效果,俺就很高兴了, 就当LHR training/recovery好了。。

,更没跑过LT100,但是从我的10K和半马的经验来看,至少有一半以上的cardio和
endurance是tranferable的。
去年在十几年来没有任何跑步训练的情况下,跑了个45分钟的10K,在加拿大的一华人
论坛体育版被人认定是吹牛。hehe... |

I did. So I would say, at our level, we can transfer a lot of the effort.
On the elite level where they are already very fit, it's much less effective.
