Parents are mentors to their children. As a parent, she can "PUSH" her child towards "success", or she can "LEAD" her child towards success. It is a matter of choice. I am not sure calling her daughter "garbage" is a way of leadership.
Oh maybe I shall forgive her because she is a law professor -- lawyers' words cannot be taken at their face value.

good for her to understands that playing at Carnegie Hall is just one of
many options she is going to enjoy down the road. On the other hand, I won'

raise their children?

modern society, and the jury is still out on which way is better, Chinese/
Asian way, Western way, or a hybrid of the two?
Chua's book is not a how-to guide (how I wish there was one!). Her points
are certainly not well received even by many Chinese immigrants.
I would still read this book to see what she had to say. she may be nuts,
she may be a control freak, but I found the stories of her family
fascinating

I do share her point that it is important to build character.
