I have a pending job offer and am considering to move to San Francisco
area. I have two kids (8 and 2) and wife does not work. The package is
about 200k everything. So where is a good place to live for a family? Is
there a place that has good school district and affordable housing (like <
750k) and not too bad commute (such as <45 min one way)?
Maybe I am dreaming?

发帖数: 2972 | 6 Oakland Hill areas ( includes rockridge, Upper Rockridge and Montclair) are
good, safe areas. I live in Upper Rockridge. Transbay Bus takes 45 minutes
to SF financial district, Bart take about 30 minutes.
There are several very good elementary schools in these areas,but no good
middle school and high school except Hillcrest. Hillcrest is a K8 ( KG to
8th
grade), it is too later for your big one (8 years old). If you cannot enter
school before KG, it is hard to get in after that.
My recommend areas: Oakland Hill, Orinda/Lafayette ( best schools in north
part of east bay), Palomares Hills/ Five Canyons in Castro Valley and East
Dublin/Pleasanton ( maybe too far away).
I lived in SF city over 3 years. It is good and convenient for a single or
family without kid.
I know above areas, please let me know if you have any question.

我原来自己买房时,非常想选在ORINDA, 但LD工作地方需要开车( BART不方便), 24上的
隧道上下班时堵车,所以最后选在UPPER ROCKRIDGE (OAKLAND).希望2013年新隧道(多2
个车道)开通后堵车会缓解些.
ORINDA是传统的白人区,最近几年华人明显增加,学校应该是主要原因,房价比PIEDONT (
好学区)要便宜一级.
ORINDA在往南的MORAGA,学校一样好,地更平些,还有一片AFFORDABLE的TOWNHOUSE ( 40-
50W). 只是多7-10分钟到BART站的COMMUTE.

/ Moraga的学校相对又更好于Lafayette. 但Lafayette的交通相对优于Orinda/ Moraga
. Orinda大都房子在山上，对开车技术有点要求，一不小心就掉到别人家里去了。
Moraga相对平坦些，房价也低少许， 但上24号有些距离。所以个人根据自己的需要可
以将这些少许的差异忽略。在SF downtown上班的很多人都住在Lafayette/ Orinda.
Take Bart every day.

个大学区，简称叫Larmorinda。 Lamorinda教育出的孩子们大多很懂礼貌，体育上都很
强， 学习成绩也好。新来的中国家庭是越来越多的。还有就是stay-at-home-mom非常

的确如此. WEEKDAY的上午在PARK里边,都是自己跑步或带小孩散步的女性,不管年龄多
大,看着各个都非常健康,气色好.很少看到肥胖的.应该都是家里不缺钱的.
MORAGA相对来说中产阶层的要多些.ORINDA的富人多些. 如果为了孩子上学,而自己是中
产,建议选MORAGA/LAFAYETTE. 如果孩子同学中富人子弟太多,孩子之间容易有攀比,对
孩子的成长不好.
"新来的中国家庭是越来越多的",的确是这样.
