奧數選手成為一流數學家
在國際數學奧林匹亞獲得獎牌的學生，日後成為大數學家，例如下列獲費爾茲獎（Fi
elds Medal）和Nevanlinna Prize（與計算機和資訊科學有關的數學大獎）的數學家：
1. 1959年IMO銀牌得主 Gregory Margulis於1978獲費爾茲獎。
2. 1963-66年IMO金牌及銀牌得主 Laszlo Lovasz，於1999年獲沃爾夫大獎（數
學最高大獎），Lovasz並於 1965及1966年連續兩年取得 IMO特別獎。
3. 1969年IMO金牌得主 Valdimir Drinfeld於1990獲費爾茲獎。
4. 1974年IMO金牌得主 Jean - Christophe Yoccoz於1994獲費爾茲獎。
5. 1977年及1978年IMO金、銀牌得主 Richard Borcherds於1998獲費爾茲獎。
6. 1981年IMO金牌得主 Timothy Gowers於1998年獲費爾茲獎。
