can we put categorical var into model only but not into class? there is no
maximum likelihood when i put that cat var into class.

probably when you treat the var as categorical, the model is saturated (
perfectly fits the data). You can treat the ordinal var as numeric only if
you can justify using the var as numerical (the odds ratio between adjacent
categories are const).
