... and then escalate it to a Greater Depreflation?
==============================================================
Many Americans know that the Great Depression was started by the bursting of
the giant Wall Street bubble of the 1920's (fueled by the use of bank
deposits on speculative gambling, which is why Glass-Steagall was passed) ,
which in turn caused a run on American banks.
But most Americans don't know that the second leg of the Depression was

The second dips of 1932 and 1972 were much worse than the first dips of
1929 and 1969. In 1932, SEC had to be created. In 1972, price of Gold
increased 10 times over night!

the second leg of the depression started in 1930, as deflation spiral
already pushed the consumer spending level to blew that in 1928. the
bankruptcy of creditanstalt was just one of casualties, and it was
eventually bought out by the austrian national bank.
that being said, i agree with concerns for double-dip expressed in the
article.
the gov't hasn't done much to tackle the unemployment problem. prolonged
high unemployment under the hoover administration was

what do the most harm to 1930s is that US start to tighten budget in an
environment where unemployment is widespread. Although, currently, in the US
Fed still take expansionary policy. But on the world scale, the budget
tightening seems to take roots recently.

A healthy economy allocates capitals to the productive business. The sick
one sends capitals to the loser bubble business. US economy got sick b/c
Greenspan blew a loser housing bubble and mis-directed lots of capitals

The solution should thus be tightening (or cutting off) capitals to the
housing business and letting that market collapse. That way capitals can
be redeployed to a better place to grow real productive and profitable
business. In doing so you will have a temporary p
