cup, they can target you much better to show ad.s in travel deals, soccer
gears, magazines, condoms, brazil hookers, etc. lol.
i like their huge e-commerce potentials too.

TWTR is the only option if you need to search unstructured content in real
time. People talk about big data but who knew TWTR has the easiest big data
issue to solve. So if any business needs quick response in seconds, such as

such as other user's information such as friends, name, age etc. But TWTR
is the only service that can do real time search on every text content
posted by the users.
FB has this concept of "graph search" but their content is too long and
their graph search is a much larger scale problem, harder to solve.
Twitter's search is easier because they limit each tweets to 140 character
long and 250 tweets per day per person. I can not figure out how to do the
equivalent search in Weibo. I think there is a chance SINA built it
incorrectly.
So to summarize, TWTR has something nobody else can provide.

structured data like SQL queries of the 1980s. To search structured data,
you first have to mine the data and produce structure by indexing. That
process is slow and error-prone. So some level of QA/check is needed. This
is how you have to limit the data you can recognize and store.
In the past a few years, the world has moved on operating on unstructured "
big data" where meta data info is limited. This is where TWTR has the only
feasible large scale solution today. Each time I hear FB user base grow, I
know their dream of real time big data search is further away. Who else is
even close?
If you want to do business in the big data era, you currently only have one
option. TWTR's search speed has been constantly improved, even they have
user base growth.
That's why my optimism on TWTR is they can figure out real business
applications of their strength. Don't let FB fool you. Social Network is not
where the money is. Social Network is the only thing FB is capable of doing
, while TWTR can actually have a chance to improve from:

If they do that they will be a 500b company too.

Either follow it or not. The linking(follow) shows the connection. This is
not too different from google's page rank which is based on links among
pages. But apparently google can not do real time search as effectively
because they are searching among the more complex 3rd party web pages.
Social network is a dead-end. The only thing meaningful to business is
twitter. This is only my opinion though.
My curiosity is in China only SINA weibo seems to follow twitter
communication model faithfully. At the same time, only Wechat Public Account
is closest to twitter's business solutions. It will be very fun to watch
how Chinese market play out.

好像twitter开始的创始人几个，技术都不怎么样吧，最开始有这个idea的是一个lower
level programmer，自己写不出来，另外2，3个在google工作的人帮他。
然后就这么牛X了？
当然我很喜欢用twitter，股票上就不好说了，到今天早上那些55，60的大量put也没有
cover。我觉得twitter用户少有一个原因是没有link到别的网站上，比如fb，每次登录
某个网站，用了fb的信息，也算fb登录了；手机里面总是自己跑出来fb，lnkd,之类的
，但是看不到twitter。

good at:
1. build a close, sometimes private, friends circle.
2. rich content, audio vidio photos etc.
So it makes more sense to regular people. But FB has no future in ECommerce,
and marketing on FB is doable but less effective because doing business
violates the fundamental rules how Social Network is build. If you build a
democracy why are you selling out privacy to any company who can pay for
that information? In other words, users of Facebooks and LinkedIn are
enslaved by the companies because it is costly to leave. But you really do
not have control over what FB is doing to you.
I am saying Social Networks are not business friendly because their roots.
