(haven't timed myself yet), but it sure feels like I'm doing more work
in the water and surprisingly my body can actually sustain it, so it
seems beneficial from a workout point of view at least.

after watching this video, I decided to try and up my stroke rate and
take a breathe every three strokes. The easiest way to get into the
right rhythm I've found is to swim a few laps with paddles, then take
them off and just keep swimming fast (or keep thinking you want to
swim faster, but not necessarily pull harder every stroke).
I had a great workout last thursday swimming like that and by the end
of the session I was exhausted. I can breathe equally comfortably on
both sides to begin with, but unlike the girl in the video, I'm not
short and my wingspan is exactly the same as my height (181cm), and
I'm kind of used to over-gliding and breathing every two strokes for
longer distances, so the higher stroke rate is definitely a nice
change of pace for me. The bad part though, was my catch got pretty
sloppy with the higher stroke rate, and my kick was even sloppier
which made my body rotation worse because they're not very well timed.
Anyhow, I think I've found a new way to train, and I'm excited once
again. I was going to buy a waterproof mp3 player to make my swim
workout less boring, but now I've found something challenging to do,
yay!
Let me know about your experiences with stroke rate training. | d*****n 发帖数: 1875 | 2 1. 为什么up my stroke rate需要take a breathe every three strokes? Every
two strokes不能 up your stroke rate吗?
Let me know your experience using the MP3, thanks. | a***c 发帖数: 2443 | 3
Every
I've tried increasing my stroke rate breathing every two strokes as I
normally do, what happens is, I can swim a couple laps like that just
fine, then I just drop back down to my normal cruising pace after a
while, so breathing every three strokes can kind of enforce the higher
stroke rate without the need to time myself every couple lengths or
so. Remember, I am trying to increase the stroke rate for long
distance swims (>1km), and I think my approach is pretty effective so
far.
yeah, I want the Finis player too! But it's kind of expensive. A
friend of mine bought a chinese made waterproof mp3 in Hong Kong for
HK$300, it's not as sophisticated as the finis one (just regular
earbud type, not thru the bone like the finis) and it works just fine,
and is 100% waterproof. I'll try and see if I can find something like
that on ebay.
will definitely let you know if I decide to buy an mp3
I'm not really trying to polish my techniques at this point, as I feel
I can still shave some time off with sheer brute force, the way I see
it, higher stroke rate is a brute force approach, but it will also
open up more opportunities down the road when it comes time for me to
fine-tune my technique.
