The pool water level should be between waist high and chest high
This informal lesson plan should be adjusted according to the skill and
progress of each individual
Please ensure playing/practice time at the end of lesson for the
children so
it is not all work and no play
Google any terms that you are not familiar with so you know what it
looks it.
Holding Breath:
Both arms holding on the side of the pool
>Blow bubbles with lips in the water (5 times)
>Blow bubbles with the face in the water (5 times)
>Blow bubbles with whole head in the water (5 times)
>Hold breath with head in the water for a count of 10 (5 times)
>Pick up object from the bottom of the pool (5 times/to ensure open eyes
in
the water)
Floating:
The instructor should be standing next to the swimmer
>Jellyfish float
>Floating on stomach with face down like a starfish.
Gliding:
>Push off the wall and glide 6 feet toward instructor with straight arms
in
front & legs together (4 times)
>Push off the wall and glide 6 feet toward instructor with straight arms
in
front with legs together and stand up by him/herself (4 times)
Kicking:
>Flutter kicks against the wall with both arms on the side of the pool.
>Push off the wall and kick 9 feet with straight arms in front, face
down
toward instructor and stand up (4 times)
>Push off the wall and kick the width of the pool with straight arms and
face down (4-10 times)
Arm Strokes:
>Dog paddle arm strokes with face in the water without breathing for 1/2
the
width of the pool (4-10 times)
>Dog paddle arm strokes with face in the water without breathing for the
width of the pool (4-10 times)
>Dog paddle arm strokes with head in the water and one breath midway for
the
width of the pool (4-10 times)
>Freestyle. arm strokes and kicks without breathing for 1/2 the width of
the
pool (4-10 times)
>Freestyle. arm strokes and kicks without breathing the width of the
pool (4-
10 times)
Floating on Back:
>Floating on back like a starfish (stomach up, head tilted back)
Swimming on back:
>Sculling demonstration
>Push off the wall on back (stomach up) , flutter kick with sculling
toward
instructor for 6-9 feet
Turnover:
>Turn over demonstration
>Swim on back and turnover to swim freestyle. midway for the length of
the
pool (6-8 times)
>Swim on front and turnover to swim on back midway for the length of the
pool (6-8 times)
Breathing:
>Freestyle. breathing demonstration
>Freestyle. with breathing (8-10 times) for 1/2 the width of the pool
(4-10
times)
>Freestyle. with breathing (8-10 times) for the width of the pool (4-10
times)
Survival Floating (also known as dead man float):
>Shallow end
>Deep end
Tread Water:
>Shallow end
>Deep end
