players at poker tracking sites and see how much they win and what
percentage they stand. The percentage ranking maybe only work for tournament
players though.

millions of players data, yes, 88% (or 85%) of players are losers in the
long term. since there're so many tracking sites/software now, if you google
and do more research, you might get similar results.
for small stakes, it's really hard to beat the rake and your ever improving
opponents/drying fish pool. without rakeback, even more ppl like myself
might get onto the losing side.
for live small stakes, it might be even worse, because you pay extra $ in
tips and maybe badbeat jackpots (which 99.99999% of us have no chance at all
). casinos give some comp dollars back, but compared to the rakes/session
fees we pay, it's not as much as online rakeback.
after all, it's a zero-sum game, or not even because of rakes. it's a game
only a handful ppl could get rich. a few references:
1) the best online 100NL (a fairly high stake already for amatuers) player
in 2009 made about $30K+rakeback;
2) the best online tournament player in 2009, gboro780, made about $800K,
yeah, sounds like a lot but if he pays taxes... AND, how many ppl are like
him?
3) fcf makes $500K, and he's already the top X in the world for his stake;
4) even many high stake big name pros go broke here and there. we may hear
someone with a "career" winnings of 3 millions, but dude, they've played
poker for 10 or 20 years... some internet kids have had "quick" success, but
for most of them, it's not sustainable at all.
in general, poker may look like a fun and easy money game in the beginning,
which you "just" play a few "fun" hands, and win $500 "easily", and in your
head, you may already start that $500*365 dream, but in the long run, it's
only a dream to 99% of ppl.

Usually these players play a lot of hands. Their bb/100 isn't that great.
Only 1-3 bb/100 for the top player in these level. |
