The rug appearing for this auction is a handwoven, wool pile on a cotton
foundation, piece dating from the late 19teens to late 1920s.
As written in the September/October 2001 issue of HALI (the carpet, rug and
textile magazine referred to as the industry's Bible):
"Rug-making has never had the pride of place in Chinese culture that it has
