What is stripper?
Before I signed up for the volunteer, people told me that stripper is the
most popular volunteer job at IM, it usually “soldout” as soon as the
volunteer registration is open (yes, IM volunteer has a registration too!).
Since I really want to watch the swimming leg and wanted to be as close as
possible, so I signed up for Swimming Spot job.
So, this morning, after the brief meeting by the north side of the lake at 5
:30am, I was assigned to do the swimming spotter at the south side of the
lake (which is located the same side with start/finish/transition, my spot
is about 0.6 -08 mile away from the start, my job is to remove the timing
chip if any swimmer out of water from the ramp. They said each year there’
re about 30-40 people will DNF like that. So after an hour, 99% swimmer
have passed the turnaround spot, the last one got picked up by the boat as
she has some issues… so I was released from my job.
I went back to the swimming finish line, there’re thousands of people and
it was all gated, luckily the security guy opened the gate for me without
even ask me, i think he was thinking that i was the volunteer for stripper,
since I have a shirt, so I started doing stripper job and i did
about 20 people.
OMG, its a dirty job, because i think everyone peed in their wetsuit so
everyone and the whole area smells pee. Lol And when you peel their wetsuit
, the water on your hands a kind of warm, I was feeling very gross in the
beginning, but I immediately felt guilty that I shouldn’t even think it
that way, as I will probably do that something next year and someone has to
strip me
LOL
Anyway, my shoe, jeans, shirt got all wet just after striped the first
person, and this job require lots of strength from your core and arms, lol
because we are all in the such hurry, you will need to do as fast as you can
and also have to keep going nonstop, i sweated so badly like i was lifting
weights, I was out of breath just after strip five people in a row.
The best part of this job is you got see your favorite person get out of
water, I was busy strip other people then I heard that speaker announced “
XX from China”, I immediately located huahua!!!
Thanks for his big strong bear hug, after that my shirt was not only wet but
start dripping water lol
There’s not many people missed out the cut off time actually, I guess most
of them got collected by the boat before the finish.
There’s total five of them, one women she just missed 8 seconds!!!
She’s the first one that missed out the cutoff time, the last one was out
of water by 2:39
It’s fun to watch and get inspired.
