Helen Amelia Thomas (August 4, 1920 – July 20, 2013) was an American author
and news service reporter, member of the White House press corps and opinio
n columnist. She covered the administrations of eleven U.S. presidents—from
the final years of the Eisenhower administration to the second year of the
Obama administration.
On July 1, 2009, Thomas commented on the Obama administration's handling of
the press, "we have had some control but not this control. I mean I'm amazed
, I'm amazed at you people who call for openness and transparency and you ha
ve controlled...". She also said that not even Richard Nixon tried to contro
l the press as much as President Obama.
Thomas was of Arab background and she described herself as a liberal. | l******t
