recent high profile mortgage and welfare fraud scheme, that stretched from
New York City to Orange County.
The district attorney hopes these arrests send a clear message, that Orange
County will not put up with anyone trying to scams taxpayers.
"This isn't chicken feed okay," said Carl DuBois, Orange County Sheriff.
Orange County is cracking down on anyone trying to cheat the system.
"This isn't $40, $400 or even $4,000. It's $400,000 this time it was over $
300,000 last time that's real money," said DuBois.
The 31 men and women, most from Orange County, are charged with defrauding
Medicare, public assistance, food stamps, and daycare programs.
"It starts with intercepting prepaid welfare fraud in the District Attorney'
s office what that means is stopping it before it happens," said Orange
county District Attorney David Hoovler.
The district attorney said it took several months and a coordinated effort
to get to this point.
"This is a very successful collaboration between the DA's office between
Department of Social Services and between our county sheriff who supplies
the logistics support for a lot of the arrests that occur," said Hoovler.
County officials said their goal is to make sure only people who need the
benefits get them and stop those who are trying to scam taxpayers.
"So to have that kind of collaborative effort this it what happens you get
results," said DuBois.
The DA and County Executive hope this latest series of arrests sends a clear
message.
"It's really the sign and ripple effect that our message is getting out
there. That we have a zero tolerance on welfare fraud. We're are going to
going prosecute people who are abusing the system," said Orange County
Executive Steve Neuhaus.
These arrests took place over the last 10 days, and individuals charged in
connection with this sweep are facing a maximum of four to seven years in
prison, if convicted. | t*c 发帖数: 8291 | 2 那么多人力物力才抓了31个?
