Proves Her Wrong

Racial discrimination is a hot topic right now. Sometimes, though, I think
people must not understand exactly what that phrase means. Let me give one
example:
A Connecticut traffic citation allegedly based on racial profiling turned
out to be completely false.
Minati Roychoudhuri, a professor at Capital Community College, was pulled
over in May for failure to drive in the established lane in Wethersfield,
Connecticut. Not long after the incident, she wrote to the Commissioner of
Public Safety claiming the police officer who issued the traffic citation
racially profiled her.
Here’s what happened (via Fox):
“The policeman asked me if I could speak English and if I knew why he
had stopped me. I said, “yes” to speaking English and “no” to why he had
stopped me,” she wrote in the letter. “The officer did not give me any
reason as to why had stopped me. His asking if I could speak English shows
that he had racially profiled me and was not able to give me a concrete
reason for stopping me.”
When Roychoudhuri, who teaches at Capital Community College, in Hartford
, gave an in-person interview in regards to her letter a week later, she
repeated her claims of racial profiling and that the officer did not explain
why she was stopped. She also signed a statement that it is a crime for her
to make any claims that she does not believe to be true in an effort to
mislead a public servant.
Most police vehicles have video recorders now and some police officers even
wear body cameras, and the officer who stopped Roychoudhuri was no exception
. Following her letter and interview, an internal investigation looked into
the dash cam footage to see what really happened.
In the recording, the officer asks if Roychoudhuri knows why she is
being stopped. When she says no, the officer is heard saying, “Okay. There
’s that big gore area with white lines painted across it and you cut in
front of it, in front of me, thinking it’s a lane or something. You have to
wait until it’s a dotted white line.”
Well, the evidence has it…turns out the officer never asked if she spoke
English and fully explained why she had been pulled over. Roychoudhuri was
arrested for giving a false statement in the second degree. | T*********I 发帖数: 10729 | 2 Racial discrimination is a hot topic。
我亲耳听过不只一个老一代老中说过,"well, I can always pull the race card."
