I was getting used to a new laptop I had gotten around 2 months ago. The
little green light next to the camera turned on shortly after I got it and
signed into it. And it was ALWAYS on. Even after I closed my camera apps and
before I turned them on. My dad came into my room one night to talk to me
before I went to sleep, while I was listening to music. Just as he was
leaving, he said, "Do you know your camera is on?" I said "No... how do you
know?" And he said "The light is on" I looked directly at the light, and
then at the camera, and for the first time, it turned off.

My friend came home from school one day to find that her house had been
broken into. She decided to go inside, and look around whilst she called her
mum. She was done looking at the second floor when she made for the stairs,
her mum convinced her to go outside and wait for the police (who she had
called). Later on, the police asked the family if they owned a crowbar, the
said they didn't. They then said it looks like the offender was still in the
house when she got home, and they were waiting at the top of the stairs
with a crowbar, which they stupidly left behind when they fled.
edit: there were items that were disturbed upstairs, but only in the one
place. Through the first door you see at the top of the stairs. That was the
only room that was moved around, suggesting that that's where they were
when she came home.

When I was in my very early 20's my mom and I shared a house. We had a
stalker. The first night we stayed in the house someone got into our car. My
mom happened to come outside, saw him, set off the panic alarm on the car
and scared him away. My backpack had been in the car and he dumped the
contents into the floorboard of the car but left the paycheck that I had
just cashed, all the cash still in a bank envelope. The police said it
seemed that they were searching for something specific and really questioned
me about what that might be. But I have no idea. Police were able to get a
partial palm print off the car but had no matches in their system.
My mom and I were out doing yard work and found a phone cord under our deck.
It connected into the phone box on the outside of the house. We called the
phone company out and they said that they figured that someone had been
using the cord to hook up a phone and lay under our deck and listen in on
our phone calls. They removed the cord and put a lock on the phone box.
We also frequently heard someone walking outside our windows at night. We
would call the police and they would drive by but not see anyone. Another
time all of the lightbulbs from our exterior lights were removed. Once we
came home and my mom realized that a pair of earrings and a stuffed animal
that had been sitting on her dresser were missing. There was no sign of
anyone having broken in but those items never turned up and we were sure
someone had been in the house. We frequently heard this weird thump and
squeak noise that we could never figure out what caused it.
Another time my mom was raking leaves at the front of the house and saw
something in one of our bushes. It was a voice activated recorder, wrapped
in black plastic and tied to the trunk of one of our bushes. The recorder
was tapped into our phone line. Someone had gotten under our house, drilled
a hole through our foundation (!!) and run a phone cord through the hole,
into the recorder in the bush. We have no idea how a neighbor (though they
were all elderly) didn't see or hear this happening. The police, who were
well aware of the issues by this point, now seemed to realize that this was
a serious, scary problem. They sent several officers out to investigate the
recorder. We were in the house talking to an officer and heard the thump/
squeak noise that we always heard. We told the officer "That's the noise we
can't identify!" As it turns out, at that moment an officer was crawling
under the house and had bumped a pipe. He was able to repeat the noise. The
police figured that it was almost impossible to get into or out of the
crawlspace under our house without bumping that pipe. And we heard that
noise a lot! The police think that whoever it was was getting into the
crawlspace and lying under the house listening to us! We put a cover over
the entrance and glued it down. We put sequins in a certain order in the
glue so that we could tell if it had been removed and re-glued.
It was all insanely creepy. We eventually moved. I moved in with my
boyfriend (now husband) on a second floor apartment. I felt so much safer
with people all around and figure that the stalking issue was behind me. Not
long after we moved in I noticed that our caller ID wasn't working. I
called the phone company and they informed me that a "Mr. Kramer" had called
and requested that the caller ID service be turned off on our phone. I had
a meltdown! I was so upset, first off because the phone company let some
random person make changes on our phone line and secondly because apparently
the issues were not behind me and they were planning something and didn't
want the caller ID to show up. I put a password on our account so no changes
could be made without it. And that was the last issue we ever had. I really
think the caller ID issue was possibly unrelated. Maybe someone was
accidentally making changes to the wrong account or something?? Either way
it was very creepy though I have to admit, if the person had wanted to do
something bad to either one of us there were surely plenty of times that
could have been done. It really seems they just wanted to observe us and
scare us.

Ah yes, storytime.
So, a few years back my friends wife had a stalker from high school. They
relocated several times to avoid the stalker, but everytime he ended up
finding them.
So it first started when she broke up, and she started working as a barista
at a local coffee place. He soon started coming in several times a week, and
then daily, and then twice daily. The owner told him he needs to stop
coming in after she told him about the stalker. So he leaves.
Fast forward a few weeks, and she's walking out to her car after closing,
and as she walks out to the car she sees a figure watching her from the
building across the street. She rushes into her car and drives off.
Then the phone calls start coming in. For weeks on end, he would call late
at night, telling her how much he wanted to "fuck her". At this point, she
got into a relationship w my friend, and then suddenly she started getting
letters in the mail of his sliced wrists. She tells the police, but nothing
ever came of it. Eventually, he moves.
Years later she starts getting emails from him. He starts telling her how
much he loves her and how he's going to kill himself because he can't be
with her. She clicks on an attachment he sent which is just a suicide note.
Weeks later she wakes up to grab a glass of water, and notices her webcam
light is on. She goes over to inspect it, but it turns off. Next night, same
thing. After a while she gets freaked out and installs a new one, without a
light.
At night, her and my friend begin noticing a car appearing outside, but it
drives off. One night, while she's taking a shower, a man looked in the
window. She absolutely freaks, calls the cops and locked herself in her room
while he stares in banging on her outside window. He runs off and after the
cops comb the woods and find nothing, they begin a large investigation.
A few months later, she gets an email late at night. Thousands of pictures
of her and my friend having sex. Turns out he had installed a RAT and had
been remotely turning on her webcam and recording everything. At this point,
her and my buddy were seriously freaking out, and I have them come stay at
my place while they figure stuff out.
Well Reddit, one night he comes to my home. My fucking home. He found my
fucking house. He entered the gate, and I get notified somebody had entered
the code after hours. HE FIGURED OUT THE CODE TO MY HOUSE. My house
immediately locks all doors, which I had already locked but you know. I lock
the gate manually.
I called the police. They arrived and after tense negotiations he killed
himself in my driveway. As it turns out, he had been completely stuck in my
yard and hadn't been able to scale the concrete walls. When we heard the
bullet fire we freaked out because we thought a cop had shot him/he shot a
cop/exchanged bullets etc.
Ended up moving because the fact someone killed themselves in my driveway is
a tad unsettling. I make sure all my new homes are Purge-ready as well. My
friend and his wife are doing well, and haven't been bothered since. Must've
been relieving to have it come to an end after moving periodically for four
or five years.
Anyway, hope this wasn't too hard to understand. English isn't my first
language.
Edit: Code to my house = code to my gate.
Edit 2: The house was in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills. That's why it had
concrete walls in the front exterior. The same wasn't true for the back of
the home, but the back of the home was off a mini cliff so that wasn't much
worry.
The house came with home automation. In a multitude of events it would set
off an alarm on my phone. One of those was the gate being opened after hours.
Additionally, she replaced the webcam because she didn't realize the webcam
was hacked. She thought that it was just broken. Nobody suspected any form
of hacking until the pictures were sent.
Also, we discovered he had set up a camera crudely fixated to a tree across
the front of my yard a few days later when police were investigating
everything, so how he found my code isn't a mystery and additionally he
never hacked anything that related to me and as far as I know nobody was
ever hacked besides her. |
