This couldn't look worse for the WH.
Very true. This 'cover-up' is futile. This snowball is rolling whether we
watch it or not. We will find out the outcome either way.
Comey knows how fucked up this is. Nunes vanished on Tuesday night, held
his press conference on Wednesday, and what happened? Comey made an
unannounced visit to the White House on Thursday (which is extremely unusual
).
Now we find out that Nunes got his info on the White House grounds.
Whatever happened to Nunes last week, Comey found out about it almost as
soon as it happened.
After Nunes cancelled the public hearing and invited Comey to a private one,
Comey apparently said essentially "no thanks, and you know why".
Read the letters back and forth about Yates' testimony. They establish that
the WH's denials of this story are false. Then you have Nunes cancelling the
House Intelligence Committee hearing *after* Yates' lawyer took the
position that the WH's privilege assertions had no merit闁炽儲鏀sically
stonewalling and siding with the people he's ostensibly investigating when
their own attempt to stonewall failed. And now we learn from Schiff that
Yates was going to be testifying about Flynn (and a potential cover up).
To top all of this off, you have Nunes secretly getting classified
intelligence from WH staffers only to then turn around and brief the WH
publicly concerning that very same intelligence闁炽儻鎷while* withholding
it
from his Committee. Once again, defending and running interference for the
very people he's supposed to be investigating (and in the process breaching
all norms of acceptable behavior as the chair of a congressional oversight
committee).
We're quickly getting into obstruction of justice territory if we're not
already there.
Republicans now have a choice: show some independence and carry out a
legitimate investigation闁炽儲鏀 overwhelming majorities of the public
have
indicated they want闁炽儲鏀紃 be branded the complicit闁炽儱顎in-treason
party.
Democrats have mounted a pretty decent opposition so far. But it's time to
kick it up a notch. Use every tool at your disposal闁炽儲鏀皀cluding
withholding
unanimous consent in the Senate闁炽儲鏁刼 force the GOP to investigate. Hold
unofficial hearings and town halls. File lawsuits. Call for protests and
direct action. Use state-level law enforcement tools. Kick and scream闁炽儻
鎷
literally* if necessary. Shut this thing down, because it can't go on like
this.
