Amazing news is that many of the ERCOT board don't even live in Texas. In
the words of an old Pace Picante Sauce commercial, "Get a rope." The problem
is that the political masters of city-owned utilities in Austin, San
Antonio, and other metro areas have decided to go "green" and shut down
perfectly good (and low polluting) coal-fired power plants in return for "
renewable" mumbo jumbo (many of which froze up and can't store power) so
when the brown-stuff-left-by-the-dog-hit-the-electrically-operated-
oscillating-cooling-device, they didn't have capacity to deal with people
trying to warm up their houses by 45-50 degrees. Our utility, a rural
electric coop in South Central Texas, managed the blackouts well. We had
several outages, usually no more than 1-2 hours (often about 30 minutes).
Our house never got under 65 degrees and our thermostat was set at 68 when
it was running.
