A Bowling Green police officer was injured on the job Sunday morning. The
Sentinel-Tribune reports the incident happened around 5:45 a.m. as Jessica
McClure-Weis was trying to help State Patrol officers take an unruly suspect
into custody in the 800 block of Sixth Street. The newspaper reports
McClure-Weis was the first BG officer to arrive on the scene when the patrol
asked for assistance in arresting 23-year-old Zhe Liu, who had apparently
parked his car in the middle of the road. McClure-Weis ended up with a
crack and a tear in her left ankle and will require surgery.
It appears the incident happened after McClure-Weis used her taser on Liu.
Another BG police officer and a patrolman were able to get Liu onto the hood
of a police cruiser, but one of the officers may have made contact with one
of the lines from the taser and jumped back from Liu. That's when the man
tried to take off again. He was eventually arrested after a short foot
chase. Liu suffered a broken arm in the pursuit. |
