Worth 15 Test Points
1. On graph paper, draw something that inspires you. Be creative! Now,
redraw your picture using only straight line segments, parabolic curves, and
shapes from any of the other seven basic graphs. (You can use shapes from
other graphs too, but be careful, you’ll need to write the equations of
them!)
2. You must find and write the equations of at least 4 straight lines and 6
other curves (from the other seven basics). Your equations should match up
to the points plotted on your picture! In addition to writing the
equations, you must state the restricted domain of each of your equations so
that only the portion shown in your picture is represented. Turn in your
equations and their domains on a separate sheet of paper. Your equations
must meet the following requirements: (12 pts)
4 Eqns of Lines
_____One increasing and One decreasing line (2)
_____One vertical or horizontal line (1)
_____One set of perpendicular or parallel lines (1)
You may not use your horizontal/vertical lines for the parallel or
perpendicular sets.
6 Eqns of other seven basics
_____One with a vertical translations (1-2)
_____One with a horizontal translation (1-2)
_____One with a vertical stretch or compression (1-2)
_____One with a reflection over the x-axis (1-2)
_____One with a reflection over the y-axis (1-2)
_____You must use at least 4 different functions from the basics. (1)
2. Show your x and y axes and use a scale of 1. (1 pt)
3. Because this is a piece of artwork, points need not be labeled. However
, you must label each line on your graph with some sort of system (letters
or colors work well) that corresponds with your equations page. (1 pt)
5. Give your picture a title and color it! (1 pt)
6. Turn in your picture (graph), your equations page, and this worksheet
with your name on each. I do not want your scratch paper. You must meet
all requirements to get the full 15 points.
