Even statements that sound positive can be harassment
Harassment can be hidden in comments that sound like compliments. The
following statements are all inappropriate:
"Asian men are so good at design."
"What's it like to have to wear a headscarf?"
"You've got a great job for a Hispanic woman."
"You look really young for your age—that's got to help in high tech."
"That skirt really shows off your pretty legs."
All of these comments single out someone's age, appearance, gender, race, or
religion, and they are all inappropriate in the workplace.
