Making jerky is really really easy. The idea behind is that without water,
bacteria cannot grow. You are sucking water out of meat. The dehydrator
basically is a fan, plus heater so it dries faster. The only thing is you
should use meat without fat and connective tissues, as these do not perserve
well.
I usually get chicken or turkey breast, put in freezer for a while(easy to
cut), slice to 1/4 inch or whatever, sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt or kelp
, put in dehydrator overnight, that's it. timer is not necessary but the
temperature control knob is useful. I dry mine in the garage. It is not
super loud but you can hear the fan. |
