天开车去过一次，从此念念不忘。 说服了爬山伙伴小A，我们决定要into the wild。
本来没打算带小朋友， 无奈找不到合适的babysitter，再加上小朋友死乞白赖，苦苦

总算开始慢慢往前挪。慢是慢点，至少一直在走。
很喜欢这一张，一路上的常态。
清晨一抹亮色。
我们沿着Johnson Creek一路上行，到达这个basin，然后继续上升到Columbine Pass。
总算看到Columbine Lake，12，000ft的小高山湖。

是
bare mountain top with no trees. 要想欣赏郁郁葱葱森林景色，呆在半山腰就得了
。 不过话
说回来，比起其他14er，Pikes Peak 确实姿色一般，普通人儿一枚。
谁要去那个著名的马拉松啊？通知一下吧，就在我家附近，一定赶去摇旗呐喊，倾情支
持！

原本早已不爬山的我，因为一个半海归的朋友特地从中国过来邀请我，就完全无准备地
去爬这个美国除了阿拉斯加以外最高的山 Mt Whitney。
大家都知道这个最高的山，其实是14er里面最容易容易，不需要任何technical skills
就可以爬的山，所以老少咸宜，非常受欢迎的一个hiking地点，以至于需要抽签才可以

skydivehawaii is definitely more popular among tourists but they are also
very busy so you'll have to wait longer for your turn, and gosh does the

little cottonwood canyon里面海拔10,000ft左右的alpine wild flower。
7/30 Red Pine Trail, Wasatch National Forest
7.2mi往返，600m allevation gain。上山的时候没怎么停，两个小时到Red Pine Lake
。下山边走边认东西，下到trailhead居然用了五个小时。不过很开心上山的时候基本
什么都不认识，下来之后大部分的开花植物和一半的树都能叫出名字了^^

容易看到。不过以前看到伞形科都是比较湿润的林下，这次在11,000 ft树线以上的
rocky slope能看到伞形科的东西还真有点吃惊

It also has a passenger oxygen switch with the option to arm the masks,
manually deploy the masks, or close the air valves.

某同学拉我周末去插小红旗。这次的山头叫Mt.Massive, 科州第二高峰。比老大Mt.
Elbert矮12英尺，比老三Mt.Harvard仅高1英尺。Mt.Massive是由五个连续的山峰组成
，每个都在14，000ft以上，怪不得叫Massive。
早上4点就把自己从床上拔起来，拎着包迷迷糊糊的出门，谁知一头撞在门沿上，脑门

发帖数: 654 | 29 如果真是要学snow and ice climbing或者introduction to mountaineering, 去加拿
大参加Yamnuska办的班不错。yamnuska.com
加拿大落基山地区（常驻Canmore, Jasper, Field的ACMG向导)的guides的平均水平要
比美国这边高，尤其是冰雪方面的素质很好。Yamnuska组织的班都很好，大牛barry
blanchard, Sean Issac, Rob Owens等都是那里的guides. 这帮人不仅自己爬得好，而
且是很会教的老师。
Canadian Rockies的海拔比较低，高峰的大约10，000ft,教学用的冰川、大雪坡都在
7000-8000尺， 所以没有多少高山反应，可以把精力和体力主要集中在学习登山技术上
，而不是因为喘不过气，吃不下饭、睡不着觉而没有精神学本事。
推荐的班有三天的snow and ice long weekend。

从这里下到湖边大概600ft，可是。。。路呢？这才意识到，我们终于也不能免俗地迷
路了！话说这一路上我们都没注意到任何岔路，直到现在反复回想都不知道哪一步走错
了。

)的最高山峰. 以前拜读熊猫媳妇的blog的时候就知道了科州的14ers(科州58座海拔在
14,000ft以上的山峰)，自己也希望有朝一日可以爬一座14er. 而计划行程的时候发现
mt elbert被14ers.com网站评为class 1, 也就是14ers里面最容易的trail, 而且也没
有太多的exposure. 又容易又安全，9mi的距离也不算太长，而且还是科州的最高峰，
这样的山峰不去爬还等什么. 最后和小伙伴们一拍即合就有了这次4th of July, mt
elbert之行.

summit whitney, 需要走一条长约22mi, with an elevation gain of 6,145ft的
hiking trail. 一天走下来的话，是一条非常辛苦的hiking trail.

elbert, 那次回来以后就有了想有朝一日去爬一次北美lower 48 states的最高峰mt

yelp上看很多人为了爬whitney认真训练了1年，所以总是觉得爬whitney这种事情可望

. 当时也没太看天气预报, 为了方便穿着个短袖，长裤就上路了. 海拔低的地方还好，
到了海拔高的地方, 12,000ft以上，明显觉得呼吸困难，而且冷风嗖嗖的. 最后跟我一
起走的同伴给了我一件fleece jacket, 才勉强登顶.
这次早点走! 估计吃不上你的hot breakfast了! :-) 希望到时候能summit! 好歹也是
北美lower 48 states的最高峰! |

simply can't compare a flat 100 miler to a 100 miler with 20,000ft elevation

cross meadows, swamps, and even a river. We had to walk through water 5,6
times, before the climb toward Hope Pass starts. When I hit the trail, it
became immediately obvious that this will be hiking, not running (unless you

climb. I walked up just like everybody else. The walking continued for a
couple miles, and I wasn't feeling well. Somehow I seemed to have been
drained of energy. I felt dizzy and nauseated, my legs felt weak, and I was
wobbling as I hiked up the dirt trail. I had a pro bar in my camelbak but I

发帖数: 1283 | 43 从Haile面部表情看，他在25k的时候状态很好，非常放松。据说是哮喘的问题犯了，可能跟从高原下来有关（他训练的地方在10,000ft，比Kenyan训练的海拔要高不少）。Geb多年以前就出过类似的问题，也是因为这个没有在北京跑马拉松。
希望过几年Geb去跑Leadville, 破记录肯定如砍瓜切菜。:) |

发帖数: 18 | 45 当车沿着50号公路向东，翻过葱葱郁郁的太浩湖山脊，一路向下的时候，展现在眼前的
却是一派茫茫的大漠景观。正午的阳光下，那成片起伏的灰白黄褐色大地沉沉地睡着。
远处的小城在渐渐的放大，车最终扎入城市喧嚣之中，我们的目的地，西部古城Carson
便到了。
海拔5，000尺的Carson市是内华达州的首府，也是这个TRT100比赛的根据地。比赛的号
码领取以及准备工作，还有重要的比赛说明会就在市中心议会大厦边上的草坪上举行。
来自各地的近千人将分别参加55公里，50英里和100英里比赛，每个项目250到300人。
赛事组委会规定周五下午三点前要check in，随后参赛人员，尤其是100迈的被要求一
定要参加赛事说明会。
这是我的第一个百迈赛，很多东西都很新鲜。当然更多的是茫然和不安，毕竟是人生的
第一次嘛，又不知深浅的选了这么个难度较大的比赛。虽然向超马前辈同仁们请教了很
多，但是这次的酱油训练，高海拔的影响，加上颓废的状态，赛前给自己定了个在35小
时cutoff以内完成的目标。如果比赛过程中状态良好，也许可以争取33到34小时。跑友

发帖数: 3311 | 46 Today is 9-11 (2011). I had a little hike from Snowbird Center to the top
of Hidden Peak (end of the Tram) along Peruvin Gulch trail. Totally
4miles,
2900ft gain to 11,000ft, and ~250pix on the way.
On the way up I passed by a memorial for Heather Gross (27 years old) who
was killed 12/14/08 by an inbound avalanche.
Snowbird is hosting OktoberFest and they have all the German bier, band,
contest, and fun stuff. It was quite a relaxation at the end of the day! |

秋叶的实际状态每年会因天气变化而不同，
这个网站有当地人每周两次的红叶报告。

西部的山里基本没有天然红叶，都是黄叶

补充一点，Moderate/High Color的时候天气好就可以出门了。
注意结合Leaf drop报告，因为不是所有树叶都在同时变色，
所以真到Peak的时候，经常叶子已经落了三成了。
海拔也有影响，
譬如纽约周边Catskill比Bear Mountain高2,000ft，开车也就一个多小时距离，
但可能BM的叶子还没怎么变色，Catskill的叶子已经落了一多半了 |
