发帖数: 65 | 1 现在在一个公司做predictive modeling, pricing 部门的。有两个机会可以跳：一个
是做reserving，另一个是换一个公司做senior predictive modeler.
我本身是actuary background，没有统计学位。做了几年的predictive modeling,没有
做过传统的pricing或者reserving.
现在有点纠结，从哪一个机会会对未来发展更好呢？
换reserving吧，好处是可以充实我actuary的background. 不太好的地方就是
reserving感觉上会比较boring。如果我以后还是想回到pricing/predictive modeling
这块，reserving 的experience可能是鸡肋。
做senior predictive modeler, 好处是工资会涨不少，也是我自己喜欢做的东西。不
好的地方就是，我没有统计学位，感觉纯粹做predictive modeling对我来说不是长远
之计。actuary 总需要做过reserving和pricing的。
希望能得到过来人的建议！ |

先说下背景：本科数学，毕业后到一家asset management公司做初级的equity analyst
. 两年后觉得想做精算，于是读了一个精算的master,soa过了3门。因为种种原因搬到
另外的一个城市，精算机会不多，原来学校的connection也没有了，找了3个月精算工
作无果。现在开始考虑risk management和其他investment方面的工作,手里有两个
offer:
一个是本地很大一家asset management，跟我原来做的工作很像。坏处是工作比较
repetitive 和boring,好处是公司很大，估计有很多上升的机会，也有可能转到risk
management或直接投资的部门。

找工作面试是一个饱受折磨，身心俱疲的过程，让人骂爹咒娘坑祖宗的过程，更是磨练
钢铁般意志，体现谁是真汉子谁是杜蕾斯的过程。
本人统计小硕，准名校，有过两段INTERN经历，其中一段与统计无关。
今年年初开始陆续投简历。5月份考完试，PROJECT，答辩都结束后开始全职投简历，找
工作，面试。
战果：
email发简历陶瓷无数（保守估计800+），电面50-60， ONSITE： 6， OFFER： 2。
总体感觉今年形势还不错，可以从职位的POST，猎头联系的积极性，别人的信息等等看
出来。
个人认为：信息来源/network + Communication >> 专业背景。可能PHD会有不同。职
位搜索，尽量用ANALYST,PROGRAMMER等做关键字。

刚拿到一个德国工业集团的offer，为集团内国际子公司的化工产品做actuarial
pricing， 主要应用GLM模型，软件采用SAS和EMB套件。 我纯粹是处于好奇才面了
他们， 经理很自豪的说， 他们是业内最早应用GLM技术做定价的公司， 已经使用了几
年， 可预见的未来不会改变。

先说我的背景。我在国内读的是国际金融，03年来美国以后在一个三流的学校读经济学
的硕士。在读第二年开始的时候，认识到一个做精算的师兄，于是打算转入精算。我师
兄说，要想进入这行，要抓紧，现在考的人太多了。我04年11月考了前两门，但是准备
时间不够，第二门没有过。考完以后曾经投了一些简历，没有收到一点回音。当时对于
经济系毕业的前景也不是很了解，所以就申请了学校。曾经在读精算还是读统计之间犹
豫过，后来觉得读精算拿奖学金太难，而且精算专业毕业能否找到工作也没有十足地把
握，所以就只是申请了统计并且拿到了另外一个三流学校统计的奖学金。然后05年5月
份考过了第二门。我知道英文对于做精算很重要。而我的英语基础很不好，尤其是口语
，来美国第一年几乎就没有怎么开口说英文，所以第二年我就开始花心思提高我的英语
。主要是多看电视和主动去认识一些美国人，多练习。

做actuary的应该知道，risk is opportunity
人家码工入门门槛虽然低，但是创业成本也很低廉
上网一搜，满大街的open source，其它行业去哪里找这样的资源
比如做机械的，就算会做，没有一定的资金，怎么start up？
it白手起家的不要太多，看一个行业不能只看risk不看opportunity
要想low risk，就来加拿大，终身雇佣，什么工作都不会随便裁员
同时税也往上彪
另外就是，大多数engineering入行都需要执照，都有行会

在线等：刚拿到一个小保险公司的offer，不知道该不该接受？
本人情况：statistics小硕，工作７年，１年pharmaceutical market research，６年
class I medical device。现在的title是sr statistician。工作很轻松，工资待遇都
很满意，只是太没挑战。所以想换个工作。我所在地区Biotech都是小公司，很不稳定
。想转到别的公司，做个biostatistician，一是别人还很挑，嫌我class I medical
device的背景不够strong；二是很有可能pay cut（拿到一个CRO的offer，开的工资比
我现在低２，３万）
这个小保险公司offer我 sr Predictive Modeler，工资 |

来写一下我这个颇有点传奇意味的老板。
娥蔓德同学，年龄31岁，身高175吧，三围不详，至少看起来很瘦。三个女儿，11，9，
6，都是跟前夫所生，所以她是在大学里怀孕继而奉女成婚的。我老板是美女。一头齐
肩红发，却又微染金色，典型的白人面庞，但唇红赤白，却又符合东方人的审美。冬天
里你看着她柔顺且橘红透金的头发，配着高加索人独有的雪白却红润的肌肤，不知怎的
，让我想起来‘水清沙幼‘那句话，她的头发就好像金色的沙滩，肌肤像是闪着夕阳鳞
光的白浪，一幅温润的海景画，就是她侧脸的象征。
娥蔓德同学说话永远是细声细语的，并且永远笑容可掬，爱笑的女人总是很讨人喜欢，
不是吗？也许是alabama来的缘故，她有一种说不清的亲和力，但她的家教，谈吐，不
经意间的某些英伦腔，却又像来自新英格兰地区的富家小姐。她说话时最常用的词是带

Alabama有很多英国裔，我以前的大老板也是一个，论长相风度都不输给Colin Firth，
Hugh Grant这种英国帅哥。相比之下很多来自CT，MA的所谓新英格兰帅哥都要靠边站
“说明下，svp在我们公司是很高的职位，cfo下边是chief actuary,chief actuary下
边是四个svp,我们老板的老公（老板爹？）就是这四人之一。”
这个有点不靠谱吧，CFO才是他老板的老板，也就是说他到CEO还有三级。这样的级别一
般公司里一个director都搞定了 |

这个帖子怎么又浮起来了。那我就再将几个笑话吧，和精算无关，斑竹别生气。
这个是真事。某同学用的是典型的中国英语。临近毕业，他做答辩，最后要说致谢词，
然我陪他练练，并纠正他的错误。对于他的老板，他想说的是，老板不仅教他做研究，
也叫他如何做人。这是他给我说的英文。
I feel so lucky to have Dr.N as my advisor. He not only teached me how to do
the reasearch, but also teach me how to do a man.
