Indeed, if I only wanted to burn some calories I wouldn't care. What I'm
wondering is whether I need to think
about investing on a more expensive bike in order to do an ironman. I
probably won't do it if it only shaves off
10 minutes in a 112-mile bike ride. But a 30 minutes difference would be big
enough for me to consider
some investment.

It's easy to understand a lighter bike, but it takes time to understand what
it means to you for a few lbs lighter, and also takes to understand what's
the benefit of more efficient power transition (for example BB30), what's

w********6 发帖数: 12977 | 7 If your bike is still relatively fresh, then don't worry about the race.
My bike got a flat tire only after at least 400 miles of riding.
The reason of flat tire is when your tires (especially rear) worn out and
becomes less protective you hit something sharp on the road.
My experience is when you have your first flat tire, then it will become
more frequent until you have to change your tire entirely.
For a short race, you don't have to practice it unless you have to.

A general rule: do not try anything new just before the race. |

For your first mtn bike, suggest you go to your LBS (local bike shop) and
ask around. If you are thinking of doing single tracks, $400 is actually
kinda low-end... If you can save up for $600 you can get something like a
Gary Fisher Wahoo, which has very decent beginning components and a nice
frame.
Above all you have to test ride them and see how they fit your body. |

h******2 发帖数: 1498 | 46 The faster you go, the bigger the difference.
Just google and you'll find tons of info on bike aerodynamics.
Once you can maintain 22mph on a roadie, getting an aero helmet, aero bars,
and aero wheels can get you at least 1mph faster. The TT bike itself isn't
what makes you go faster, it's the geometry that allows you to ride in an
aero position without losing stability. |
