正好碰上下雪封山，在雪山顶上等了好几个小时路才通，不过看到雪山黄叶的景色了。
East Sierra的红叶一般在九月尾，十月初红，黄叶为主，有些红叶。看红叶的好地方
有June Lake Loop， Virginia Lake, Twin Lake, 最好的是Bishop的South Lake，
North Lake， Sabrina Lake周围。叶子红的程度受天气影响很大，去年我们虽然是10
月1日去，但是因为下雪，很多地方的红叶已经明显过了。事先可以查查这个网站。http://www.calphoto.com/fall.htm
当然红叶的壮观程度是无法和东部相比的，但是对于在加州想看秋色的朋友而言或者途

GPS信息我没有，地点大概是在bishop以北30多麦（不是很准确）的地方
从南向北开的时候在一个叫什么tom+&& 的地方向左边的小路转。
接着要开一会，让后开始上山再走会。我去过好几次每次都是这么找的。
再加两张照片，一张是9月底照的。
一张是6月中照得。
这条路任何季节都好看，trail有趣，走不多远就会见到一个个的湖。
很可惜，这次回家乐极生悲，我的手机被放到洗衣机里洗了。
这次的照片尽保存在别处的不到10张。 |

trail head有停车场，路标就是我说的写着tom什么的。
我真的每次去都不注意究竟是tom什么。
你从bishop开始大概20-30麦看路标应该不会错过tom什么的路牌，
然后左转上小路往山上开。我就知道这么多了，每次都是这么照得。
这次去往里面开了一会路就封了，是下车走了大概1.5mile才上trail.
你要去的话6月再去更好。 |

除了或多或少完成了救赎，这四者之间最大的共同点就是都被Colm Wilkinson在音乐剧
舞台上扮演过。据说Wilkinson早年同时面试les mis和phantom of the opera，同时被
两部剧录用。巧的是两部剧的监制都是Cameron Mackintosh. Mackintosh出于市场角度
考虑，要求Wilkinson挑选一个角色。Wilkinson犹豫了半天，决定参演les mis，理由
是 ------ Valjean歌词少。。。。。。感谢这个选择，诞生了音乐史上最经典的角色
（没有之一）。
突然想起某年夏天，一个人开长途去看怀了儿子的老婆，开着开着突然听到

granted me a son"。眼泪突然就掉下来了。

躁的是不习惯ML里的用词。加上推导过程太多的细节，有些抓不住重点。
Bishop这本书确实没有涉及到比较新的领域，内容都只是本科生范围，只不过用比较系
统化的方法把经典的内容整理了一遍。我觉得比较适合学过的人加深理解，而不适合初
学的人掌握ML的主要方法。 |

习machine learning的实用技术，还是看《Elements of Statistical Learning》，里
面的技术浅显易懂，而且更实用更全面一些。Bishop的书全是Bayesian的理论，“误导
”过不少中国学生，都觉得现在最前沿的machine learning全都是做Bayesian的。其实
现实的machine learning应用，从来没有一种应用是Bayesian方法一定比传统统计学习
更好。所以让学生花太多精力去研究Bayesian的推导，不如用这些时间去学一些更多方
面的技术和应用，或许更好。 |

亞洲通訊社日前報導了一些消息，關於中國大陸天主教某些合法主教被教廷要求辭職，
為讓位給非法的，甚或被絕罰的，所謂主教。接着，在媒體上出現了一些不同的陳述和
解釋，相當混亂，大家又知道我早前曾去羅馬，就都來問我能否為事件作出一些澄清。
其實去年十月汕頭莊建堅主教已收到教廷的指示，他請我幫他聯絡教廷。我托人親手把
他的信送去傳信部，又請傳信部部長轉交一份副本給教宗，不過我不知道那副本是否到
達教宗枱上。還好那時韓大輝總主教還在羅馬，他向教宗道別時有機會和他談了汕頭及
閩東的事，原來教宗並不知情，且答應韓總主教他會關注。
聽了韓總主教轉告我教宗說的話我放心了。但十二月發生的事使我更加吃驚。當傷心而
年老的莊主教請我把他對「教廷赴北京代表團」所傳訊息向教宗回應的信傳去羅馬，我
當然一口答應了。但我有什麼辦法能保證他的信能到教宗手裡（我自己的許多信也不肯
定是否到了他手裡）？
為能肯定教宗聽到我們的聲音，我毫不猶疑決定去羅馬走一趟。我一月九日晚上啟程，

For Catholics, Interest in Exorcism Is Revived

The rite of exorcism, rendered gory by Hollywood and ridiculed by many
modern believers, has largely fallen out of favor in the Roman Catholic
Church in the United States.
There are only a handful of priests in the country trained as exorcists, but
they say they are overwhelmed with requests from people who fear they are
