there're also all sorts of career paths available.
before one know what direction to follow, it would be helpful to learn from
others what's possible. the book "Alternative Careers in Science: Leaving
the Ivory Tower" is what i recommend for casual reading.

条件简直和NSF early career award 一模一样。
多问一下，有没有人一年同时投这两个的，NSF early career and DoE early career?

在老虎的通知下，终于发现俺最后一次投的NSF career也悲剧了。回想俺对career
proposal的精雕细琢，对其中technical idea倾注的心血，以及以往为此付出的各种努
力，实在心有不甘。而且career被拒后俺的tenure希望渺茫，未来的命运从此注定坎坷
。虽然关上门的时候，俺自认为自己的research就算没有开天辟地，也可以算得上独树
一帜。科研不能说不努力，探索各种领域不能说没有勇气，而且自负地认为至少有一两
个成果的质量可以与大部分获奖论文相比。加上接连无怨无悔地认真申请NSF，就算是
博取reviwer的同情心，照理也应该是有些优势的。可是没曾想最终仍然落得个连职位
都要保不住的下场。俺那么多年按照Gallager老人家的教导，一心坚持纯理论研究，难
道真的是个错误吗。
虽然郁闷也改变不了什么，但是发个声响以示悼念。 |

在中等学校，有CAREER时Tenure容易出问题，最常见
的情况是一开始是就拿到了CAREER，但之后就再没有
拿funding。这种情况，系里会问这个人以后还能不能
拿funding，因为CAREER和regular的program毕竟是不同的。
在牛校，有CAREER是拿tenure的基本条件，这个就不用提了。 |

Maybe PO gives you CAREER partially because you do not have other funding.
However, I do not think that PO does not give you CAREER because
you've already had tons of funding as long as your CAREER proposal
does not overlap much with other grants.
更少); 倒是几个没中的最后tenure了, 人家tenure之前(甚至更早)就上百万了. 会不
会reviewer看到你已经有上百万的funding, 心里想, 这小子没有CAREER也能活的很好.

现在的career proposal 跟上一个funded proposal大方向都是差不多的 （低能耗结构
/材料），而且准备投同一个 program，这是不是不太好啊？我准备在新的proposal里
面明确提出career想做的东西是基于上一个proposal成功的内容。 有没有同修有有过
类似的经验吗？特别是link9同志提到他是在拿了一个正常的经费之后又拿career。 这

award而已，比拼的也都是资历浅的人。杰青要求高多了，算是一个很重要的头衔，带

首先，我们必须同意，我们说的是相对的高度和荣誉度。
一：从颁发机构来考虑：
机构相当有啥意义，基金委还有“优青”呢。资助金额美刀40万和人刀400万是一样的
支持力度？Career就够你一年找2个博士生顶天了，400万人刀（100万一年）在过内能
雇多少博士生咱就不说了。前面还有人说了，拿了杰青还有单位奖励配套奖励现金、住
房的，这在一般的985都很普片。
二：从奖励的高度
你引用的都是一堆文字描述，太虚。咱们列几个事实：Career都是AP，杰青99%都是正
高；得Career的30不到刚出门的PHD一堆堆的，根据我周围带认识的平均年龄35不到，
杰青90%以上是40-45。
Career在俺们这tier2的学校都一窝窝的（>20），国内除了北清没有几家能有20+的杰
青。
三：从人才序列和申请者资质上考虑：
你说的“而国内的杰青，申请条件要求是国内副教授及以上"，完全不了解情况，前面

发帖数: 424 | 26 第二年暑假结束的时候投的career，杯具了。得分不高，V, V/G, G, G.
reviewers们还是感觉比一般非career的要负责些，给的意见还是中肯的，大概意见是
觉得proposal有找到一个information gap，也有重要性，也和PI整个career plan的其
他方面integrated。但是proposal 结构还需要修改，但没提意见怎么改结构，有些
task缺少细节，这个我还在做，到时候应该可以写详细些。今年写的时候是怕写多了，
就感觉什么都已经做太多了。然后education就是说大部分是participate，需要有更多
是PI lead的，还要更好的和research integrated.这个怎么integrate呢？
不知道这样的一个proposal明年再改有可能得分提供很多吗？我感觉能做的就是多提供
些细节，写作上花钱请人帮忙看看，毕竟咱们写语言不会本土人那么能煽动人心，让
reviewer喜欢。还有就是多开会，感觉reviewer的评价都还可以，但给分很不generous
,尤其是两个给G的。而给V的感觉还是比较挺我的。

career 今年没有拿到，那明年tenure了就不能resubmit了？对吧。
刚开始看nsf career program.大家指点下。
听说early tenure会让同事很不爽。我跟一些senior同事聊过，他们说我等时间到了再
申请，根据我的表现肯定没问题，

）写毕业论文，没法参加本校的Career fair。我对10月初要在CU Boulder举行的
career fair比较感兴趣，那里有一些领域里比较感兴趣的公司，可惜那个career fair
是本校学生only（估计要查学生ID？）。我想问问有没有谁是CU Boulder， CS的要参

标 题: 求教： 有人了解clinical research scientist 这个career path吗？

不是做clinical trial的，而是收集病人数据发表文章写grant的那种，有人了解这个
career吗？ 如果不做faculty, 是不是性质跟生物千老一样，靠着老板的grant过活？
这个能否作为一个长久的career考虑？
本人有Ph.D, 一点点的clinical background, 现在很茫然career方向，请过来人指点
一二，谢谢！ |

enterprise applications like SAP. Not knowing where my career can go I
enrolled in a part time MBA program (pretty good one for where I am at) and
am expected to graduate next month. I have been thinking of pursuing a
career in finance, investment analysis etc. and the career assessment that I
did also points to a finance function. Is there anyone out there who’s
done that kind of career change? I am a bit discouraged becau |
