来自主题: Outdoors版 - My feet hurt! DAMN CLIMBING SHOES!
I just got a pair of climbing shoes.
I did my first gym climb today in these shoes. I had to take them off
between climbs. They hurt my feet almost the entire time I had them on.
I rented before I bought these.
Should they hurt this much when you first wear them?
I read they will get better as time goes on but how uncomfortable should I
be in the mean time?
The shoes do have an aggressive down curve. I know the aggressive nature
would make them less comfortable. Again, how uncomfortable should I

Again, check this TR and compare our climb with theirs:
1. We climbed almost at the same time 6/27/07 vs. 6/28/09 of a year.
2. On the 2nd schrund, they were not as lucky as us to have a good snow
bridge, they had to climb steep wall
3. On the 2nd part of knife ridge, they went higher than us. It looked like
we did harder route than them
4. On summit ridge, they traversed hgher than us, which is a litter harder,
I believe
5. We used almost the same route for summit pinnacle

偷了一段老大的结语。
“This is definitely the most strenuous climb I have ever done. It beats the
one-day climb of Rainier. We spent exactly 10 hours in "you-fall-you-die"
zone. I think this is the toughest part of the climb. Of course, if we didn'
t make any navigational mistakes, that time would be cut to 6 hours, which
is much more managable.”

I still have a long way to go to refine my crack technique. You'd have to
live near a good climbing area to get really good. Too bad that RRG is 12-
hrs drive round-trip: not unbearable but hold you back from going more than
once a month. Plus the crack in RRG is not as good as its world-class steep
sports climbs.
I would say Smith Rock is my second favorite sports climbing area. I only
did one 5.7 trad there last time. Will try more next time, esp the Lower
Gorge if I can get a rope gun :)

穿越teton并不是技术上难,有些route最难的部分只有lower 5,多数只是alpine
climb。但是风景很好,记得在什么climbing杂志上看到被评为最什么的route。它应该
归于ourdoor adventure而不是techniqe climb。如果没走过,介绍说,最好跟guide。
因为很容易走迷,或找不到路口。

9 minutes for the whole 5 pitches, not just that aid pitch. that is faster
than most people can climb stairs: 350 ft is roughly 35 floors. speed record
for climbing columbia tower (highest building in seattle, 7xx ft) is a

"climbing" can be a very vague term. I personally use it to refer to
anything where a rope is needed. therefore steep snow, ice, glacier travel,
class
5 rock, occasinally class 4 terrain as well, are all climbing. (of course
when I am on a bike, any form of elevation gain is also referred to as "
climbing", but that's another story).
Everything other than that, I'd call scrambling or hiking.

I don't know any good climber who does equalette a lot when they free climb,
including both your crag instructors. It just takes forever and it doesn't
equalize well anyway. It's something nice to learn and practice though.
If you can't find 3 good pieces to build a good anchor when you are free
climbing, you are certainly not climbing at the same level as I do and this
discussion is totally out of question.

If you end up doing multi pitch trad route, investing $30 on another device
is no big deal considerng how much you spend on the rack. ATC is the most
versatile device and I truely believe it should be on the rack of every
climber: alpine, cragger, or sport.
When I climb trad multi pitch, I exclusively belay with a petzl reverso 3,
and use autolock 90% of the time.
When I climb alpine rock, I always use an ATC.
When I climb at a sport crag, I usually bring an ATC and a Grigri.

I feel that 5.12 is a whole new challenge for me compared to 5.11.
Pure muscle strength is very hard to maintain unless you climb 3+ times a
week, which I have no interest of doing.
By leading sport 5.11 and trad 5.9 you can have (some) fun in most climbing
areas in the world. If I'm lucky enough to push further, that's fine. But
taking into account that I only break into 5.11s during my 10th year of
rock climbing, I don't think I'm talented enough to be that good.

I am going to teach my two older kids climbing by following the Basic climb

climbing skill is a must. I guess I can save quite a bit by teaching them by
