You must have some senior supporters or you are a superstar. Based on my own
experience, I adopt the following rule: if I am not ready to accept the
answer, then do not ask. When I asked a senior colleague about earlier
tenure, he told me it was risky and I couldn't persuade him. I decided to
wait to maintain the relationship. If I have forced the department, I would
have gotten tenure early, but I would have offended some people too.

心想去teaching shool的美国同学从grad school到postdoc都一直在积累teaching的经
验，带课带workshop带学生。
我觉得很多人都误解说teaching school要比research school容易申请，可以当backup
。其实the two require very different expertise and unless you have good
teaching experience on your cv, 申teaching school 不比research school容易。
