中午去了一趟我们这边的手工店Joann's。基本上买到了所有的东西。
只有Glossy Glaze没有找到。回来打了几个电话，Michael's 有。明天过去买。
好激动！
理论上说，clay应该是买红黄蓝三原色就行了？外加白色做出浅浅的效果？
我只买了你说的红黄白。红和黄都是挑的最正的颜色，没有挑偏粉偏橘黄什么的，尽管
那些颜色我更喜欢。打算摸着石头过河，先试试看。
今天clay没有sale, 2.5一块。将就吧我等不及了。 |

牙签穿洞，，按说明在烤箱烘一下，拿出来晾凉，在蘸一下glaze,晾半天或者一天，拿
鱼线穿上。 |

不能种在glazed瓷盆或者泥盆，所以只敢用塑料盆。后来sundew和pithcher plant都很
快就out grew原来的盆了。现在sundew在原来给pitcher plant的盆里，pitch plant则
换了一个更大的盆。 |

吃好。于是自始至终嘴就没闲着。饱了累了，出来走走。70多度，城市上空含混着河水
的腥腻、烘干机的燥涩、虾蟹的鲜香和阴沟的腐败气息。那是一个萎靡、慵懒、颓唐、
暧昧、怡然自得的地方。
Day 1
早饭后备马出发，一路无话，只是中途在Mississippi的Meridian休息半小时。这个
Meridian内战时被美国历史上最大的纵火犯Sherman烧成白地，如今放眼看去，仍旧破
破烂烂，跟刚烧过没什么两样。傍晚抵达New Orleans，夕阳下雾霭蒸腾，车过长桥，
仿佛要一直开到云端去。
旅馆在French Quarter。办完入住手续，把行李往地板上一扔，匆匆出来觅食。街道狭
窄潮湿，两侧多是Creole风格的排屋，二层露台挤满酒客，或倚或坐，纹脉繁琐的铸铁
栏杆上挂着碧绿的盆花。渐近Bourbon Street，音乐和人声愈发嘈杂。可怜我两个平时
连汽车喇叭都很少听到的农村小娃东张西望地走，经常一脚踩进油汪汪的水坑里。

康奈尔是常春藤学校中最年轻的一个，1865年建校。但东亚项目发展得很早，建校五年
后就开出中文课作为本科选修课程。19世纪上半叶中，康奈尔的中国学生达到3500个，
占中国留美学生的12%。著名校友包括胡适（1914届，农业系）和赵元任（1914届，数
学系），他们日后都成为20年代中国文艺复兴运动的领导人物（ “leaders of the
Chinese renaissance of the 1920s”）。
这张照片是1922年的北京城，一队西亚（双峰）骆驼（Bactrian camels）走过Tung An
Chieh（屯安街?）：
20年代到30年代初，康奈尔和南京大学合作搞了个农作物改良计划（Crop Improvement
Project），成功培育小麦、水稻、大豆等优良品种，也培养了一批优秀的中国农学家
，在合作项目结束后继续研究工作。这是1934年的棉花大丰收：
