偶来美国10年了,PhD读完工作都好几年了。
在国内的时候英语成绩就特别好,(呵呵,是真的),高三就过了四级,大二90分过了
六级,英语口
语考试第一届偶是全校唯一的A,在国内几千人的大学偶是英语演讲第一名。而且偶是
特别爱学英语的
人,... ...
BSO 完了,自己都很恶心,大家别吐,这是为了说明偶下面的问题。
偶刚来美国觉得打击很大,很多都听不懂也说不清,下了些功夫,大概来了两年左右自
己感觉飞跃了
一下。平台期持续到了刚开始工作的时候,突然到了industry,每天跟人交流量猛增,自己
觉得语言障
碍太大,又开始看电视记短语,上下班听收音机,于是终于有了第二次飞跃。过去的两年偶又在平
台上徘徊,无论怎么
努力,似乎都难以再进步了。
现在最大的问题是说话很笨,没办法用美国人的idiom,说来绕去说不清楚。语言老是跟不上思
维,想说的话都被别人先说了。听力似乎
稍微好些,几
乎都能明白,但是那10%的没听懂没听清楚的话经常让我闹笑话... ...
本来也就忍了,毕竟偶自我感觉口语比老公纯正,呵呵呵呵

單字發音比大陸的可能發音要好一點點, 但考慮到語調, 造句, 文法, 用字修辭,
idiom應用等等的整體表達能力普遍和我八歲的abc堂弟差不多. 所以大家不用互相看

没听说过weird out这个idiom。
weeded out本意应该是被淘汰、完蛋的意思吧,和鱼的关系来自"授之鱼不如授之渔"这
个说法。
不过Joe Wang应该是加了个双关:就是鱼闻着味儿太大,被熏晕过去的意思,这意思来
自吸大麻(weed)被熏晕(out)。

知道复旦大学外文系教授、《新英汉词典》的主编葛传槼的人可能不多,知道他的学生
、《英汉大词典》的主编陆谷孙的人可能多一点。他俩的英语都地道得看不出一点外国
人的痕迹。说葛传槼最牛,那是《King's English》字典主编H.W. Fowler在1933年说
的,当时陆谷孙尚未出生。葛传槼给Fowler写信,挑出他字典里的几十处错误,Fowler
回信称赞:

Hat-makers used to suffer brain damage as a result of inhaling nitrate of
mercury, which was used to treat felt. There is a hatter in Lewis
Carroll's Alice in Wonderland (1865), but he is not actually described as
mad, although his behaviour is certainly strange. Carroll is believed to
have based the character on an eccentric Oxford furniture dealer,

your writing is very good, but somehow too formal for a place originally
put in a section called "leisure". my guess is you are still in china.
i used to compose my english articles this way, using way too many idioms,
some of which i never use when speaking english. now i basically write
what i'd say. when i come here, i don't write to somebody. i TALK to
somebody.

what you are looking for, but it's close enough for your purposes, and you
don't have the luxury to wait, so you get it.
If you "do something in a pinch", you acknowledge the way you do it is not
the ideal way, but in the interest of time or other constraint, you do it
the fastest way, not necessarily the ideal way.
The closest Chinese idioms I can think of, are 将就,凑活,权宜之计
