princess还有公主的意思，容易混淆，不适合用来翻译妃嫔，看来只有在concubine上
动脑筋。

这两本书也都看了，前一本是后现代式的多重开放性结尾，不过中间考证部分很冗长，
现在想想有点像umberto eco的玫瑰之名，只不过eco醉心的是中世纪，lieutenant作者
john fowles醉心的是维多利亚时代、马克思社会主义理论等等。lieutenant的电影我以前也看得懵懵懂懂，但对开头印象极深，就是我帖子里写的“Sarah一袭黑衣，孤身站在防波堤的尽头，直视几乎要吞噬她的汹涌海浪。Charles惊呼危险；她回头冷然一视，惊心动魄。”
sophie's choice这本书我和电影一样喜欢，身为受害犹太人而自我反思，远非那种指责旁人的所谓反思作品可比。

courtesan就本意讲，应该比concubine高一些。西方封建制下，政府王家合二为一，在
court里面为王室服务的都可以称为是courtier。到文艺复兴的意大利，女性的
courtier，cortigiana（法语的courtisane，再转回英国就是courtesan了）就多指统
治者的情妇了。在后来就成了活动于上层社会的妓女。Concubine一直指的就是没法律
地位的小老婆，比中国的妾怕是还没法律保障。Consort就不一样了，本意就是合法伴
侣。王后在英语里的全称就是Queen Consort（和女王Queen Regent相对应）。Consort
这个翻译不好。Mistress的地位更疏远，地位最低基本合理。

part in the korean war，vol. i, pp.386-395 里提到这几天的战斗，386页提到
astley-cooper 上尉率领的这支部队由8th King's Royal Irish Hussars的侦察排（
reconnaissance troop）组成，6辆克伦威尔坦克担任火炮观测之用，也提到由於皇家
乌勒斯特步枪团防线地形崎岖、道路狭窄，百人长式重坦克（48吨重）没被派到此地。
所以，50军打得只是克伦威尔式中型坦克，没有百夫长式重型坦克。
