Bourbaki的专利，1938年，princeton的数学家Boas，Ralph
Tukey，John和Smithies，Frank以Petard，Hector的笔名在
American mathematical monthly上发表了一篇题为“A con-
tribution to the mathematical theory of big-game hu-
nting”的搞笑文章，并用Petard为作者写了一份讲义，1939年
Boas在Cambridge大学遇见了weil，他们居然产生了要Petard
和Bourbaki的女儿Betti Bourbaki（当然也是虚构的）结婚的
想法，并用法语写了婚礼请柬发给当地的数学家
1950年，Boas应邀为《大不列颠百科全书》写了篇文章，其中
提到Bourbaki写的几卷书，并说Bourbaki其实是一群人的一个
笔名，Boas的这种出卖“岳父”的行为激怒了Bourbaki，不久

networks的情况如何呢？是一些数学工作者在自娱自乐，还是这个领域还有点应用的前
景？另外听说neuroscience在生物研究里不太热了。不知computional neuroscience的
前景如何？
似乎越来越多做数学的人在做这些，而且不少人认为这些方向很容易拿教职。前几周一
个生物数学圈子里还可以的美国本土教授在演讲中说：“（大意）生物数学的状况不好
，数学界的人不知道我们在做什么，生物界的人看不起我们，只是这行好拿tenure

position有什么差别？因为他还拿到了一个比较好的学校tenure track的位子。两个比
起来那个比较轻松？只知道nih的pay的好像比学校高，具体高多少不清楚。一般phd刚
毕业去那里以后发展如何，entry level 工资大概有多少？ |

of this field? I am doing traditional biology and want to do that in future.
But it seems that the area only welcomes mathematicians, but not
experimental biologists like me. I was wondering if it is worthwhile to do a
master in mathematical modelling first and then find a postdoc in that
field. Are there labs doing both bench work and modelling? |

分的数值是８０－１１０，只有３个数是１１０以上，为什么画出来的图上面没有这三

好了。。。我不觉得有中英混合的书吧。。。只看中文说可能还会有概念反应不过来的
问题。。。
线性代数的话学multivariate analysis才用到一些，mathematical statistics应该不
大用得到
推荐两本mathematical statistics的书，一本书Jun Shao写的，另一本是Peter Bicke
l写的，应该是北美这边比较主流的教材~

I was good at mathematics back in Taiwan. HOWEVER, I am rusty now. Very much
so. I even forgot a 30-60-90 triangle. So it took me about five minutes (at
least) this morning.
minute is obviously not qualified to teach in middle schools - maybe OK in a
Negro school... I surely would not want this kind of people to teach my

不知道有没有人有类似的经验？这个东西算professional service吗?

？费用如何算？有校车接送吗？
2.woods charter school 是抽签决定的， 但是必须要住在 Chapel Hill 吗？
3.如果在 CARY上班的话， 孩子想去好的学区， 只有去 Chapel Hill 和 West Carry
吗？ 能住在Raleigh吗？
4. 看起来有一个 Charter school 在Raleigh 也不错， 叫 Raleigh Charter， 也是
抽签决定的吗？有居住区的限制吗？ 一定要住在 Raleigh ?
5. 还有一个学校好像叫 Enloe 又是怎么回事？属于Cary地区？
