果罗马人自己的冶金水平仍然低到可怜。
一直到灭亡，罗马人的金属器具仍然局限在以下三种材料：最容易的铅，最成熟的青铜
和一点劣质生铁，没有任何淬火，回火这样的热处理技术。
中国在西汉发明了高炉以后，可以说在高温领域独步世界有1500年左右，很可能是中华
文明圈从崛起到横扫东亚的主要原因。
汉代那种边缘高硬度，中间高强度的包钢剑，罗马人想都不要想
著名的罗马短剑Gladius和公元2世纪后出现的长剑Spatha都是没有经过热处理的，
德国地区出土的Gladius虽然内外含碳量不同，但硬度都没有超过200HV的。居然还

为什么美国人的房屋都只是一栋栋的房子，没有院墙，甚至地面楼层的窗户连个防盗栏
都没有呢？因为美国人法律意识强——法律意识强不代表美国人都不犯罪，而是因为人
人都知道犯罪成本高，心有害怕，不敢违法乱纪。
一、 城堡法
加州有一个“城堡法”（Castle Law）又称“不退让法”（Stand Your Ground Laws）
。在加州，当受害人感到自己或家人的生命安全遭受了即刻的威胁时，即使本可以逃跑
，却仍可以选择留在犯罪现场，运用适当的武力来进行自卫，甚至可以继续追击罪犯直
至危险解除。也就是说，人们进行正当防卫前没有义务退让或者撤退（No Duty to
Retreat）。
举个例子，甲乙两人作为邻居，邻里关系不好。有一天，乙举着修剪灌木的大剪刀闯进
甲的家中，大吵大闹，称甲他们家的狗在经常在自己家的草坪上“方便”，边说还边挥
着剪刀，吓的甲家小孩大哭。甲要求乙立刻离开自己家中，但是乙不依不饶，还扬起剪
刀冲向甲的家人做剪东西的姿态——此时，甲没有和家人离开自己家，而是从客厅柜子
