吃饭。嚼着硬梆梆的左宗鸡块，翻看新一期IEEE Spectrum，
看到Reflections专栏里Robert W. Lucky写的这一篇题目叫
做Retrospective Organization的文章，越看越有道理，差
点拍案叫绝。我们做成了什么事，过后回想，往往会美化自
己在过程中的见解和决定。哪些步骤见效了，我们会想那是
我们有先见之明，策划好了的；哪些措施无效，我们过后整
理思路的时候往往就视而不见。于是事后整理出来的图像，
往往变成我们有条不紊、坚定不移地按照策划好的路线，一
二三四做下来，最后就做成了这么件事。至于过程中的混乱、
困扰，某些阶段的不知所措，在我们最后的presentation里
是没有一点踪影的 |

My 6 year old felt terrible when bullies in school and summer camp started
to use derogatory terms to call him because he is a Chinese. Do your
children have the same problem?
I think this is a very hard problem to address. Individually I try to talk
about the Chinese heritage to my son and help son develop a stronger sense
of belonging. At the same time, we need to change the overall culture that
is hostile to us.

在A医院做的。
B实验replicate了A实验(指使用了同样的inclusion/exclusion criteria, 同样的两种
疗法，收集了同样的variable，做了同样的analyses...)。不过，B是一个
retrospective study,病人数据是现有的，来自B医院，用propensity score matching
调整了一下selection bias.
再对B医院的数据独立做了analyses之后，我还想比较一下A与B实验的结果，想看
retrospective和prospective study的结果会否有区别，请问可以用什么方法？
本来想用meta-analysis,但是这两个实验不是随机抽取的，我也不需要整合它们的结果
，只是想比较。于是觉得meta-analysis可能不合适，对不对？想请教大家应该用什么
方法来做？
刚开始学统计，很多东西不是很懂，查了很多文章也找不到这种情况下一般常用的方法
是啥，先谢谢各位了~ |

对于1),2)可以用单个trial内部的比较方法，但是对于3),要怎么比较呢? 望指教
另外，prospective确实比起retrospective有着"能提供因果关系"的优点，但是后者也
有耗费时间短、花费小的优点。所以比较结果如果说明两个trial结果差异性很小，是
不是能为retrospective的准确性提供一点正面的证据呢? |

types of observational studies: Prospective, retrospective and cross-
sectional.
1. cohort is one of the prospective studies, which is to study causes of

fine. I don't think anything wrong with the studies or results. However,
often times, open label trials and retrospective trials only serve as to
generate clinical hypothesis. Because there're some biases that are hard to
control, such as placebo effect,recall bias,etc. These type of studies
usually can't provide strong evidence to guide for clinical practice.

I really don't know about the doxorubicin business. Theoretically, it should
be 102 mg in one day. Why 140mg in two days? I am not sure.
We recommend limiting lifetime cumulative dose to <550 mg/m2 to reduce risk
of cardiotoxicity. Your mother's dose is 140mgx4=560mg, while 550mg/m2x1.7
m2=935mg. 560mg is less than 935mg. She should still be fine.

1月21日，《纽约时报》网站上就登出一篇文章，《Chinese Leader Gets Ride on Chicago’s Big Shoulders》描述这场夜宴，里面有一段，小标题是“Piano Politics?”（钢琴政治），内容为：

it is too much to ask to have their own opioion. Most students, I believe,
do some copy and paste especially in introduction or retrospect chapters?
Although that does not make it right. But it is the matter of the fact. The

《无题#96》上周三在佳士得拍卖会上，打破2006年摄影师古尔斯基（Andreas Gursky）作品《99 Cent II Diptychon》的335万美元（约2600万港元）成交价。投得这张照片的是纽约艺术商人塞加勒（Philippe Segalot），他曾任佳士得当代艺术部主管，现时担任艺术收藏家的私人顾问。
《无题#96》属舍曼1981年发表的大开度彩色自拍摄影作品「Centerfold（中央页摺）」系列之一，更成为2000年出版的回顾相集《Retrospective》封面照。它近距离拍摄躺在磁砖地上、眼神游离的舍曼。

One of the highlights of the state dinner was a performance by Lang Lang, a
Chinese pianist who has been a sensation in music circles. Mr. Lang played a
duet with the American jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, then a haunting

If, in retrospect, “My Motherland” might seem to be a regrettable choice
for a state dinner, it clearly was unintentional. Mr. Lang, an American-
trained pianist who divides his time between the United States and China, is
an artist who melds American and Chinese cultures. |
