可没法解释福建,广东的饮食啊.
后来和别人争论查了一下wiki后,
觉得这个香料(spice?)的调味,上色和防腐几个功能在这些地区
最终因为在防腐方面的作用被整合到当地的饮食体系里.

关系，看了一下附录，大概知道，但不是很明白，想请大家指点一下。
基本上就是说，本来Arrakis上是有水的，后来worm幼虫把水眼都给堵住了，
下面的压力积累到一定程度就形成爆炸，水，worm幼虫的排泄物，和上面的什么
东西混合，从pre-spice mass变成spice了。（那是不是后来把worm和spice
都消灭掉，照Paul的想法，——就可以有水了？）
然后在一个地方（忘了名字了，什么Erg），有一些比较小的worm, 叫stunt
worm的，Fremen给抓来做祭祀用，把他们淹死在水里，水就有毒了，叫做
water of life? 要reverend mother转化成没毒的（这个这个，实在太不
科幻了，整个就是奇幻嘛）。
还有从pre-spice mass里溜出来，好不容易长大成人的虫子，才是沙漠里
让人害怕的sandworm，这些虫子怎么死呢？老死？
不好意思，英文比较烂，好多单词不认识，又急着看，没查，所以比较糊涂。

发帖数: 272 | 7 French cuisine 确实不喜欢放太多调料，法式的主要是靠wine, butter, lime/lemon
等调味，然后由经过不同方式烹饪出来的几个部分叠加出层次，最后汇总出来的。
意大利人比较喜欢各种 spice，美国的cajun food也很善于使用spice。Spices 是一个
欧美人使用 herb 的很好的例子，品种多样，味道特异。好的厨师一般对 spices 有比
较好的驾驭能力，知道怎么样混合适合哪种原料。
至于“鲜”这个概念，欧美的主要做法是用各种 stock，货真价实的用原料做出来的
stock 其实味道非常鲜，跟中国人的汤有异曲同工之妙。当然超市里卖的鸡精什么的大
部分是味精。
墨西哥人对各种 chili pepper很有研究，他们的chili有各种辣椒用不同方法做出来的
，味道差异很大。反之中国菜的辣似乎都是辣的一个味道。
地中海一带使用goat cheese和 olive 很多，个人真心喜欢各种olive。
以上仅举例说明欧美人并不是对于原料和herb一无所知，他们有很多中国人没有的东西
。各个菜系使用方法不同而已。 |

the spices. But if you like the flavors of them, you may always buy "pumkin
pie all spices" in grocery stores. Personally, I don't like the pumpkin/
apple pie spices. Some people may say "without these spices, your pie is not
a traditional pie".... But anyway, one of the advantages of home baking is
that you can always choose your own flavor :) |

发帖数: 82482 | 18 看了一下Nathaniel's Nutmeg的介绍，原来是讲Nathaniel Courthope的故事的
在The Scents of Eden里面，也有一章专门讲Nathaniel的事迹的，不过他好像很惨，
援军没跟上，而且当时英国跟荷兰搞和平谈判，他死了以后，英国人在那里也没有占到
什么太大的便宜。
不过，因为他的努力争取，在spice islands给英国搞到了一个很好的筹码，后来，英
国把香料群岛给了荷兰，但是从荷兰拿到了纽约，也不能说是一件亏本买卖
jan pieterszoon coen好像在nathaniel以后去的spice island，荷兰东印度公司的血
腥政策，基本上都是他的功劳……
沙发！ David这本书看起来文风平和，非常地好看。（不过为什么Ken Follett好像不
太觉得好看。。。。）
我翻了一本讲早期spice war的书，Nathaniel's Nutmeg。那时候远航真是危险艰苦啊
。还有好像欧洲对这些spice挺迷信的，所以才会很贵，人们才会愿意铤而走险。 |

葱姜五香粉，人家有不下于20种spice可以选择，一般美国人家里都有至少几种spice的
。稍微有钱一点的美国人家里一般都有spice collection，是整个一个rack。

花在重复他们的题上了。。。不过人家都让我过了，顺利的拿到offer（nvidia其实中
国人很少，我实习的时候都没机会说汉语）
apple那个组没中国人（也没有女性），有一两个印度人，不过没啥口音，对我也不错
，也给offer了。
oracle onsite的时候，第一个面我的是个才毕业一年的印度人（他manager给我说的）
，问了很诡异的问题，还说我说的不对，我不觉得我说的不对，我那个气啊，还是个做
测试的组，都不想面了，对他们组后面的两个面试的人都态度不是很好（主要是面8个
组呢，也不是我非常想去的组），结果这个组还给我offer了（有个组没来，所以面了7
个组，5个组给了offer）
oracle据我的两个组呢，一个因为我只想做cad部分，他们做spice电路模拟（虽然我确
实做过一些自动化的spice模拟），希望我也懂spice，在硬件中都太low level了，结
果就是双方互不喜欢吧（我最喜欢的那个组呢，面完直接说我们给你offer，也是个印

医学。
他们认为人体有四大元素+冷热。如果
level 1的不平衡，人体就不舒服
level 2，人体会有痛苦
再严重，就是疾病。
他们的传统药物也是各种草药，主要各种spice。每种不平衡和每个等级不同，吃不同
的混合的spice。他们的冷热概念和我们的凉热很接近。比如不喝冰水，对胃不好。他
们也有类似做月子的习惯，妇女在产后很多禁忌，要吃很多传统spice。
他们也食品和药物不彻底分，有类似的食补的概念。尤其level 1的不平衡，要有相应
的饮食变化。 |

名厨菜色果然名不虚传，上菜快，服务好，只是菜量很小，价格偏贵。
名厨 5 Foy Restaurant：1489 Beach Park Blvd, Foster City, CA94404
利口福的广式早茶：猪肝粥、蒸百叶、山竹肉丸等等味道都很不错，价格又非常便宜，
只有油条做得不够酥脆。

辣妹子连锁店：川菜很地道，比一般馆子的菜做得精致。服务员小妹很配得起它家的名
号---又酷又辣！不过，我不喜欢这家点的装修风格，明明是家川菜馆子，非要弄成台
湾甜品驿站的样子，不伦不类，古古怪怪。

发帖数: 589 | 45 这次玩前做了一些功课，好多都没用上，在此贴出来，希望能对其他人有些用。
顺便再说几个小地方：
1、我们发现在高速上隔一长段没有加油站的时候，如果是快进城市了最先出现的那个加油站基本上是最贵的，接下来的出口会便宜一些，最多有便宜4毛。
2、我们每天的行程基本上都和GPS给出的时间差不多，很顺利，只有快到LV和LV的时候会堵车，I-40，AR、TX和OK限速是70，NM和AZ是75，我们一般都开到限速或者再多个5-10mi，还能省出加油的时间。
3、我们被警察叔叔拦过两回，一次是12月25日，一次是1月1日，看来美国警察假日也不休啊！
