conservative Utah on Monday pending the state's appeal of a federal district
court's order that had legalized the unions.
The high court, acting on a petition sent to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, ruled

decision to deny a visa to her spouse from Afghanistan, the Supreme Court

我今年在一所還OK的學校當AP快兩年了。工作上還算順利，但是感情上的事情卻讓我煩
惱不已。 我的LD是我在離開以前畢業的學校之前一年開始談的，畢業後就開始long
distance了。到現在他在一個跟bio有關的專業讀到博士第六年了， 沒有畢業，也還沒
有發表文章。
今年早些時候我因為身體不好，LD也很照顧我，並且提到，只要能團聚， 他願意到我
現在的學校做postdoc。我也說了， 我也不在乎他掙多少錢， 兩人能在一起慢慢想
辦法。
於是我去讓系主任push spousal hire。因為LD沒有paper，也沒有postdoc經驗，不可
能給別的position，只有postdoc可能性最大。
但是LD最近突然表示他不願意來我這裡當postdoc，因為第一，他這個方向我現在所在
的學校排名不夠好； 二是他也不想在這個領域做下去了，他覺得投入產出比太低。這

the best strategy is to not negotiate over the phone when they extend you
the offer, but to wait for the letter and then negotiate everything all at
once. this gives you time to think over everything carefully to negotiate

两百多人申请，其中有近10个人光看publications现在就可以上tenure，要不是怕拖得

了。但下周准备跟系主任谈些细节，现在纠结的是要不要提出spousal hire的条件。
我lg是理科方向，现在在他领域一流研究机构做了一年半薄厚，本来计划今年秋季开始
找工作，背景较强。如果他自己找，也许能去个一流大学；如果给我offer的这所学校
真给lg找一职位，他去的话，我又觉得对他今后职业发展不利，毕竟是个教学型大学，
学生、研究资源差。我在纠结到底要咋办：
1）先向系里提，看能不能找到。真找到了，如果给出条件不好，lg能不能不去？这样
的话，有没有什么不好的后果？毕竟我还想在这个学校混几年地。
2）闭口不提。lg今年自己找。但即使他能找到，我也不一定能跟去，我这专业全国也
没几个地方有。这样的话，长时间分局是无法避免了，感情上比较痛苦。

一般来说合作性的策略会促成双赢的结果, 竞争性的策略会导致 win-lose甚至
lose-lose 的结果. 当楼主提出要 visit 的时候, 对方领悟的言外之意可能是
即使安排了 spousal hire, 也要visit了之后才决定是否接受，置对方于很被动
的位置，是个 power threat, 同时对方会认为你为他们考虑很少，另外又是
第三者介入，不符合 social protocol, 所以除非是他们极其想要争取的人
（也就是他们认可自己在bargaining power当中的劣势），否则很容易产生负面
情绪，导致反悔。
所以说谈判中一定要 practice perspective-taking, 把自己放在对方的位置上
考虑一遍问题，有时候会选择很不同的策略。 |

不同的。
我想说的是楼主可能从来都没有意识到自己很强势，也没有意识到有些poltics是在人
心里，而不是在纸上。潜规则这个东西，各行各业都有，不管合不合理，一两个人想反
着来，必定会头破血流。尤其是楼主自己实际上还是自己觉得有理的心态，比较难搞。
当然，学校那个dean的情商也不是一般的低。半斤八两。
可能你不愿意听，也不愿意相信。但是，说句实话，事情已经搞到过这个程度，即使你
们两口子去那里了，大家心里面都是有疙瘩的。就怕在评tenure的时候爆发。 |

先不说系里找provost 要个open search多难，就算provost 同意了。系里几个各怀鬼
胎的山头为了 job description 还要争半天。去年我们系的两个senior 为了 job
advertisement 里面要不要加一个 keyword 和 一个 qualification 就搞得满城风雨
，最终的目的就是要招一个自己满意的，而且还能管得住的 junior。
spouse hiring 不是不可能，但是难度其实比分别招两个 junior 还要大。道理很简单
，把你两口子都招进来，你们俩将来就是两张捆绑票，很有可能一下子打破系里的政治
平衡。对于系里的老人来说，很难判定是好事还是坏事。
