Brass Oldies

Classic songs from years past are sometimes referred to as "golden oldies."
There are political fallacies that have been around for a long time as well.
These might be called brass oldies. It certainly takes a lot of brass to
keep repeating fallacies that were refuted long ago.
One of these brass oldies is a phrase that has been a perennial fav... 阅读全帖

Over the last couple of days, we’ve had a good debate at Hot Air over the
nature of our fiscal crisis between Jazz Shaw, and J. E. Dyer, and me. At

The Left, as is its habit, is blaming the violent rioting spreading across
England and the United States on poverty, economic inequality and looming

But as usual, the conventional liberal wisdom has it exactly backwards. The
lawlessness is a result not of too little government but rather of overly
indulgent governments and collapsing families.

Most economists predict that, under current policies, the nation's
unemployment rate will be close to 9% through the end of 2012, with the
broader measure of unemployment (U-6) running above 16%. GDP growth is
predicted to be sluggish, in the range of 2%. Government will continue to
lay off workers as growth stagnates and tax receipts remain flat. In short,
the economy will remain lousy.
It doesn't have to be this way.

Today, as the RealClearPolitics average shows Mitt Romney down by less than

Economy can never been good when spending $1.50 for every $1.00 raised in
taxes. And, despite the rhetoric, it's not possible to raise the missing 50
cents in taxes no matter what the tax plan.
Spending must be cut. Otherwise, we will simply follow Japan and Greece into
stagnation or bankruptcy. It's not really very complicated.
