progenitor cells are more determined than stem cells and as a consequence they
can only differetiated into a few cell types. while stem cells have much
more potential to differentiate into various cells and organs. it's all about
potential. |

types. But some ppl prefer to use Totipotency for ESC.
As I mentioned before, some of the adult stem cells are NOT true stem cells,
coz they only have limited self-renewal ability and differentiation potential.
So it's probably more approtiate to call them progenitor cells. Most time the

very very rare to find multiple types of cancers in the lungs or any organ

时我认为primary tumor中可能存在一小部分的CSC，但是通常用的limited dilution在
免疫缺陷老鼠中长瘤的的方法说服力不强。当时我举例说established cancer cell li
ne比如说HELA，做transplantation的话，也能看到类似的结果，而HELA细胞里难道也有
cancer stem cell吗？今天看到几篇文章，竟然就是从细胞株中分离CSC，他们的说法是
"An alternative approach for isolating stem cell populations is through enri
chment of side population (SP) cells, SP cells are identified by the capacit
y to efflux Hoechst dye"，就是说这些细胞能通过这个机制获得drung resistance。

some unique cells in the tumor that can self-renewal and give rise to
other tumor cells. The question you raised here is about the cell origin
of tumor, which is related with CSC, however not the same concept.Take a

发帖数: 1764 | 12 说生物不属于Science纯粹是瞎扯。这里面共和党的政治考虑很简单。
1. STEM法案包括的专业基本上都是可以产业化很高的，这部分在美国大部分属于私营
的business, 受益者属于共和党的票源。
生物大部分还是在做研究，靠NIH等政府funding吃饭，这部分属于民主党的铁票。至于
医学那部分，现在整个美国医疗体系有国有化的趋势，而且不可逆转，那时所有医疗行
业都是靠政府吃饭，全都会是民主党的。
2. 从收入上来看，STEM法案包括的专业很容易就是两个人年收入250+k，这个属于共和
党要拉拢的范畴。至于生物的，大部分两个人加起来还是少于100k吧，这个属于民主党
拉拢的群类。医生方面，如果是拿签证的住院医，两个人收入也远小于250k。
生医类的人数上远超过现在STEM法案专业的总和。如果共和党的法案包括生医类，不是
办起石头砸自己的脚吗？
所以大家还是别骂共和党了。人家包括生医类就奇怪了。
民主党应该为生医类作主的。 |

不过最近随便翻了些信息，好像现阶段用自身cord blood能治愈的病不太多，用到的几
率是几千分之一。 而且最近stem cell的研究好像用体细胞可以转换成stem cell. 如
果这样的话，cord blood是不是将来就没什么特殊用处了？
还有如果有多个小孩，是不是每一个都要存呀？

的方式逐级重建整个H-lineage 。也由此self-renewal,multipotential 成为干细胞的
定义。
但实际上别的organ的干细胞并非如此。self-renewal是当然的。可multipotential 这
可真未必了。unipotential的就不能叫stem cell? 我认为这个定义需要修改。实际上
在现在很多stem cell研究里multipotential已不再是评价指标之一了，尤其在lineage
tracing 技术出现之后。有意思的是，好像HSC目前好像没人以lineage tracing的方
式去做过研究吧。我对HSC知道不多.
关于hierachy, 可能只有HSC被了解得很清楚。别的tissue specific stem cell是否也
有这样的hierachy? 我自己感兴趣的是transit amplifying cell (TA cell). 在mouse
