。以前single PI 的grant 比较多，现在又可以有multiple PI 的申请方式。或Co-PI
。反正具体规定看哪个基金会。不止限于生物，只要申请课题，课题负责人就算PI（也
许不全面）。tenure-track and tenured 的 professor (Assistant, Associate and
Full Professor)都可以做PI。有些基金，research tract的 professor也可以做PI.就
是薄厚的NIH， NSF fellowship， 在申请表上，主要申请人也叫PI。当然大家不这么
叫。主要觉得postdoc fellowship grant 还算training grant. 并不雇别人。
其实PI和你在学校的rank 没有之间联系。当然，tenure-track 可以申请的多一些。
可能有人把实验室的老板也叫PI，那也是因为老板是实验的课题申请人。

谢谢大家。更新一下进展。
面试感觉还不错，自己觉得尽力了。当时系主任说一周之后大概会有结果。前天系主任
打电话，似乎是位置出现变故，可能要至少两星期才会有结果。问我时间计划，现在工
作还能做多久。签证情况。如果万一推到春季是否可行。静观其变吧

临上飞机之前接到东部一个liberal art college 电话，要尽快安排电话面试。在
onsite回程飞机上我开始准备这个面试。非常疲惫。回来的第二天就面了。过程不错。
大家谈笑风生，气氛很好。学校马上打电话去问我的推荐人。第二天就确定要请我on
site.下个星期，我又要踏上征程，丛西部飞到东部了，能否斗胆请求大家继续为我祝
福？
今天还进行了另一个liberal art college的电面。应该是今年最后一个机会了。都是
liberal art college的tenure tract assistant professor 位置。好需要大大的祝福。

为单位的spatial data，而且有长达20年的数据。
现在要比较independent variable对两个不同结果的影响：1）要看independent
variable对dependent variables有没有correlation， 2）要看independent variable
是不是对一个dependent variable (with的那个）影响更大。
有可能还要把census data加进来。可以是Multilevel，或者不multilevel，都行。
该用哪个具体方法？

英国人认不认识汉语？不认识！
那么英国人在学英语单词的时候需不需要记住单词的汉语意思？不需要，英国人的英语
课本里根本就没有汉字，何谈记住单词的汉语意思？
那么既然英国人学英语不需要记住(甚至根本就见不到)单词的汉语意思，那么中国人学
英语为什么要去记住单词的汉语意思呢？这种做法大家不觉得奇怪吗？
然而由于中国人学英语时都在背单词的汉语意思，因此大家反而觉不出“背汉字”有什
么奇怪的了。
其实仔细想一想，这个行为真的很奇怪，奇怪的根源不在于行为本身，而在于中国人普
遍不会直接识别英语单词的意思，因而只好靠汉语符号来机械地帮助记忆英语单词的意
思，这样去学英语不仅多此一举，而且必然会陷入苦海无边的符号记忆灾难中。
其实英语单词和汉字一样，存在着很多的“偏旁部首”，知道了偏旁部首你就可以根据
它们直接来猜测单词的意思，虽不说百分之百猜准，但起码可以猜测个大概，至少在别
人告诉过你单词的意思后你可以恍然大悟地领会它，这样就可以大大增强你对英语单词
“见字识意”的能力，做到真正认识一个单词，而把它的汉语意思仅做为一般参考。

1. You can get some number from the realtors, although the majority of them
cheat but still they could give you some guidance.

南加，两个房子可能最后价钱差不多
都是四个房间，两个学区差不多。
A：五十年代的房子，但是整个装修过，第二层是加的，换了roof。四房四卫，一个厅
，2300尺。有ocean view，有pool，离小学0.5mile。离一条主路稍近，后院有一点吵
。no HOA. 离一个shopping center有两个block，所以走路过去吃饭喝咖啡什么的很方便。离
beach不到1 mile，所以这个neighbourhood比B的要fancy一些。
B：是个十年前建的tract home。有3个卫生间，2800 sqft，family room and living
room，family room还带一个很大的loft，可以给小孩们玩。high ceilings. 三个车的
车库。挺安静的，complex里面大概有二，三十栋房子，都是这个价位，complex里有
pool和playground，HOA每月300。周围都是住家，走到咖啡店什么的要30分钟。这个
neighbourhood比较朴实一些，靠山近，但是也很安静，干净。

看看都是什么价买的。不然的话光比一个neighbourhood的房子，很难估价的，你说多

里攒着钱等着好deal得挺多的。基本上有个好deal也被大家哄抬一下变成ok的deal了。 |

水泥不会也从中国进口的吧？我以为水泥都是在浇灌水泥的公司买的，
告诉他们规格他们直接给调配好，到时候pump truck拉过来现场浇灌
ICF的好处之一也就是home owner可以DIY省点人工。所以现在没什么
tract home用ICF呢，倒是habbitat for humanity这些可以有很多volunteer

度的规定跟1-story还是2-story以及建材有关。这个不用叹气，用什么foundation跟气
候地质都有关系，南方州偏用slab foundation，虽然豪宅倾向于用crawl space的。
slab on grade foundation从二战结束开始盛行的，你那疙瘩跟我这里基本用的都是
post-tensioned slab on grade，这种变种本意就是为了节省水泥。本来就是tract
home，怎么能跟customerized home相比，加地下室都要加钱的，我看我们那边地势落
