Speak, break, bread, idea, reality, create, ocean. 这些看似杂乱无章的单词有
什么共同点？聪明的你可能很快会发现，它们都有“ea”，而且“ea”的发音各不相同
。这反映了英语的一个特点：单词拼写和发音并不完全对应，不像汉语拼音那样，看到
拼写就一定知道发音，听到发音也一定能知道拼写。

吧，满足一下英语扫盲的要求。
按Webster：
Queen
1.
a : the wife or widow of a king
b : the wife or widow of a tribal chief

a : a female monarch
b : a female chieftain
看清楚了，这是王后或是女王。皇后或是女皇，正规的词汇是empress。再用Webster：
empress
1: the wife or widow of an emperor
2: a woman who is the sovereign or supreme monarch of an empire
解释里的区别看到了没有？既然是queen，那就是王国量级，而不是帝国量级。另
外，不管是queen还是empress，首选解释都是王后/皇后。非正式，非特定人的情况
下，用王后来翻译queen也是没什么可挑的。具体到起居注，这是中国的事情。中国历

每次美国爆发枪击案，关于美国宪法中“持枪权”的话题就会热起来。有一种说法广为
流传：美国宪法规定了人民拥有“持枪权”;更有甚者，还说这个“持枪权”是为了保
证宪法赋予人民“推翻暴政的权利”。但事实上，“持枪权”只是对美国联邦宪法第二
修正案的曲解。而所谓“推翻暴政的权利”则完全是讹传。
谈谈“持枪权”和“推翻暴政的权利”

我们来看"cast"这个词，这个词是google今天刚推出的用电视看视频的小设备，叫
chromecast，刚一出来amazon上就被预定一空。
这个玩意的大概意思就是你在手机或者tablet上找到的视频，比如youtube或者netflix
，想在电视上放，那你只要一点cast那个按钮，就自动传到电视上开始播放了。
那么这里的cast是什么意思呢？如果你不太清楚，去查金山词霸或者有道词典，首先映
入眼帘的是这几条解释：

我觉得要按小孩的个人情况定。
最浅的是字典名字里有Children's dictionary的。它们（有常见的有六本以上）的单
词数主要在
1500到4000之间。里面有不少图片。我们在图书馆借过。小孩自己survey了里面的单词
（对认识的不
看词条）。如果发现只有10%以下的单词不认识，就不会再用那本字典了。就这样，从
字少的到多的几本
词典，用处大点的时间都不长。（其实只有一、两本用了一段时间。）Merriam-
Webster's
Children’s Dictionary很特殊，单词很多，图片也特别多，应该够用几年。我们买过
，但是后来又
退了（因为有更新的出来了，虽然差别很小）。我觉得这本是很不错的。最多选一本前
面提的字典过渡
一下。
美国有三大字典系列。Merriam Webster有系列字典。American Heritage也有，但是数
目少些。
（还有Random House的。）按这三个系列选择字典应该最好。我们家的字典不少。不过
，给小孩看的

话，我觉得4年后共和党希望很大。
罗姆尼其实是矮子里面选个高的。你看开始出来和他竞争的那几个人。Herman Cain,
Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann是像能选总统的人吗？都是为了出
点名，挣点钱而已。
形容罗姆尼最好的英文单词是"ambivalence", 共和党也知道他希望不大。看webster网
站上对他的形容：

发帖数: 5070 | 49 当年出国考GRE和TOEFL用来背单词查字典的东西，我一直比较FAN高科技的东西，用这
个SONY的PDA背词，事半功倍，我考G的时候根本没空自习，全是靠这个天天带着，一个
叫supermemo的软件会自动计算记忆曲线，提醒你每天需要复习哪些单词，然后你可以
填写你对每个单词的记忆程序，每ABCDEF六档，然后软件会再重新计算下次要多久复习
，非常好用。
其它我不愿再多说了，想了解palm的supermemo可以百度，当年我在国内最火的PALM论
坛上是元老，词库都是我自己做的
另外，这个掌上电脑上有最好的字典Zdic，我破解，制作了很多词库，把单词输入，就
可以查红宝书，蓝宝书，webster，蓝登书屋webster，还有朗道字典，你可以来试试，
比金山词霸这种电脑上的字典还牛得多。详情也可以百度Zdic字典
其它功能太多了，记事，掌上农历，世界钟等等掌上电脑有的东西，都已经装好，我玩
过太多个PDA了，家里一大堆，这次卖这个。其它几个一样系统的，但是是手机，也可
以考虑卖掉：）
