In preseason rankings, every major sports journal listed Braves as a major
contender, because of their experiences and pitching depth. But to me,
Braves is far from a great team. First of all, bullpen is thinner than last
season's, and bullpen was a major reason why they got division title. Second,
their offense is not improved much. Only first base got upgraded, and Fick
is pretty much a defensive liability. Defense and pitching were two reasons

First: the braves bullpen is not really worse than last year's
Ray King, Roberto Hernandez are both proven RP, with closer stuff.
Second: Robert Fick should not be a liability in defense. Recall he
was a catcher
Third: Many of the braves lineup got off year last year. Javy Lopez,
Vinny Castilla are not likely to repeat the same poor performance like
last year. Chipper jones should hit with more power this year. and
Gary is not likely to miss so many games again
Fourth: Rotation is not

ERA tells how good this group is. Dont think they can repeat last year's
2+ ERA.
Well, being a catcher does not guarantee good defense. And the skill
required for catcher is quite different from that for 1b, isnt it?
You need to pray Castilla's defense is as good as last year's. Chipper is
one year older so more likely power decreases. He is no barry bonds anyway.
I agree GS should be better this year. Last year basically he did not hit
well.
