myself.
I called the 401K administrator, and they told me if you own the stock/fund
on a certain date when they pay the dividend, then you'll get it. If not
then you won't.
As for the price of the underlying issue, I once monitored a dividend-paying
stock and the price dropped by the amount of the dividend afterward. I'm
guessing that it would work somewhat same for mutual funds.

(Mutual funds don't have dividend, it's called distribution.
It's a different idea and the reasoning is different.)
You don't need to worry about the "loss" of dividend. Any
potential to earn dividend is already priced in the stock
price. Imagine people like me would think "hmm, there is a fat
dividend coming up. let me buy this stock..." and drive the
stock price up.
