h*******r 发帖数: 182 | 1 This morning I found a tick on my calf. It was half in and when pulling, it
was broken and the mouth part is still in my body!!! Now I feel pain and am
wondering if I should go to ED to have it extracted. The lesion is
erythematous and indurated, about 2x2cm.
I did not go to woods, but my family went to wood yesterday. It should be
there less than 24 hours since it was not there when I took shower yesterday
morning. 200mg doxycycline was taken after the failed pulling. What is next?
Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.
Anyone know how to attach picture? Thanks. |

h*******y 发帖数: 1220 | 4 Lyme's Erythema Migrans Rash usually feels warm to the touch but is rarely
itchy or painful.
In the ER, most possibly the doctor won't do nothing to you unless you have
other symptoms.
Nobody die of Lyme's disease...don't be scared. |
a**********2 发帖数: 3726 | 5 Don't panic, doctors won't do anything in the ER but send you home. Just
follow up with your PMD, if you have any symptoms later on (way later on). |
h*******r 发帖数: 182 | 6 It is a kind of surprising to me. The mouth part was picked out, and they
gave me Td shot, and 14 days doxycycline.
This is not following the 2001 NEJM and I don't know if attending MDs can
give me some clarification? Actually I was attended by PA,on holiday I
understand not many MDs are on duty.

Thanks for your caring.

a**********2 发帖数: 3726 | 7 Lol, that's fine. Just take it. Some doctors do that because they don't want
to get sued. It's really not the standard, but it doesn't hurt to get
treated as if you had Lyme.

taken during pregnancy.

worried about the lyme disease if you don't live in New England area.

h*******y 发帖数: 1220 | 11 Actually Lyme’s disease has spread to almost all states...RMSF and
babesiosis are more localized...
Oh well, better taking precautions than being scared...just relax... |

A*******s 发帖数: 9638 | 13 Although what you claimed is right, Lyme disease is atill an endemic disease
. Since my practice, I encountered many claims on Lyme after a tick bite or
something like that, but the number for a final diagnosis of Lyme's disease
is nil. I once diagnosed a patient with ALS, and he went to a Lyme
specialist who told him he has lyume and even got him on the treatment for
lyme. Lyme has been exaggerated too much IMHO.

h*******r 发帖数: 182 | 14 Update:
Now after 48h bite, the lesion is more like lyme's erythema migran: 5X6cm
erythematous rash, second ring is 1x1cm, center is 3x3mm necrosis, around
the center to the second ring is clearing.
The lesson: When you see a small tick such as the size of sesame, go to
clinic or ER to have it extracted. At home, most people are not experienced
or don't have good tick forceps, tweeser to pull it out without breaking it.
If you hold the body, very likely you squeeze the tick's gut and the
spirochetes in the guts will be injected to the body. |
h*******y 发帖数: 1220 | 15 Yes, if you squeeze the body you're innoculating yourself, better see "
professionals".
Somehow I remember only 10-20% person bitten by ticks develop symptoms (?). |

It is believed than the female tick likes male prey better than female.
Likely the hormone faciltate growth and laying eggs.
