why do the elite women wear so little, even in 30F weather? that's just weird.

mile time is probably over 3:55, so that's only 40 seconds slower than his
best 1-mile pace. How can one possibly hang on to that? That's like me
trying to run the first mile in a marathon at sub 6:20, which is unthinkable.

dissipating heat. Even some women in our local races like to do that.

between 5:20 and 5:30.
Of course, it may be a more reasonable comparison to consider the 5K
pace. Wanjiru's 5K pace is about 4:15. And yet he could run the first
mile of a marathon in 4:35, so 20 seconds per mile slower. My 5K pace is
6:02. If I add 30 seconds to that, 6:32, would be a moderate tempo pace
for me, and there is no way I would ever do that in a marathon, at my
current condition.

I think Haile Gebrselassie is usually running like jumping around. Samuel
Wanjiru however runs with very low wight center. I guess for lighter people,
jumping is a better running form. For heaveier people, lower wight center
reduce shocks to the feet.
